Wow, you did all this yourself? We did our kitchen many years ago and I remember how much work that was. Every night after work doing a little bit here and there and then all weekend. It took us 5 months to do it but we sure saved some money!

Oh hell no, can't plaster, tile or plumb for toffee! Had tradesmen in for those but my old man is a sparky so can do quite a bit himself. Done the gutting out with the old man and as he's in work most of the time, he comes over every night to do a bit with me.. last night was the sink unit and one worktop.. my walls are squiff so it's taking forever!

For fiddle sticks! (I'm not sure they are the words I'm looking for :mute:, but they will do!) we have two accounts with a building society, both accounts matured in July, I received a letter in the post asking me what I wanted to do with the funds, I was told that they would hold them in an account paying 0.5 % interest, I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do with the balance until 2 weeks ago, so I rang & told them that I'd like to withdraw the balance & use it for something else, I was told to write a letter to close the account as they couldnt do that over the phone. We wrote two letters & posted them that very day. On Monday I rang again to see if my letter had been received, no! It had been lost in the post , so i sent a copy of the letters & rang again today, only to be told the letters hadn't turned up, (a little irritated) I explained that this was simply not good enough & asked if they could simply pay the money into my account (after all I was through security) I was again told that it wasn't possible & to write another letter :wallbanging:, carrying on with the conversation I was told that if I wanted the balance paid directly into our accounts it would cost £35 each :noidea: but I could be issued a cheque free of charge:gaah:. This is 2016 not 1916, don't we all internet bank? When exactly was the last time you wrote a flipping cheque for something??? I have now sent the third letter by recorded delivery but lord help this building society if I now don't recieve the balance by flipping cheque free of charge :mute:. It really shouldn't be this difficult :dunno: rant over!

That's why i like to have a passbook and go to a branch, but now it's getting harder because they're closing the branches, so i move, :rasp: to them if they move or close local branch :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

The last bank in town left and so did we :Wino: but we had some fun with them :snorky: we liked it when the bank was having problems with there internet banking bit (we don't do it that way) so we would ring up and have a few words and they allways say " you can pop in to your local branch", :snorky: it's bleeding shut, you shut it

I don't understand what your building society is on about! If you have another account with them then you should be able to transfer the money between accounts. If the problem is because you are closing the account, then don't close it. Transfer everything apart from £1. Then wait for them to point out, eventually, to you that you have an inactive account with only £1 in it.

                          I hate building societies.
They lower the interst on yopur account and then suggest a new account that you should open with 0.2% more interest than the one they have lowered your original account to.

You then have to go in there to change accounts, they only open when I'm at work, apart from Sat mornings when if you dont get into the town centre by 9am you cant find anywhere to park.

When you go in, usually on my holiday, they make you wait, come back in half an hour.
You come back in half an hour and you wait, and you wait, finally you get to talk to someone, tell them you want to change to the new accoun t which pays 0.2% more interest.
They puch a few buttons on a keyboard, put a new sticker on your pass book and say its done.

Only takes about three hours, but they are very busy.
                          I wonder why?

The intrest rates they are paying you might as well stick your money under the matress.
They just aint woth the hassle.
