When we had the snow it was about 2ft deep in places. If people just clear their own path, people could walk without slipping and people who could get out that needs one of those trolley things. Also people in wheel chairs. If we all got together and stop complaining about the council, things would be a lot better. Also when somebody clears their driveway, don't put it piled on the path, I had to go in the road to get round a pile of snow that somebody left there.

I agree that you mustn't cause an obstruction when clearing ice and snow. although the government states that you should try and clear snow and you can do it without fear of being liable for any accidents that happen, it also states that it must be done 'carefully'.

In some countries it's the legal obligation of the householder to clear the footpath in front of their property. Some authorities stipulate the minimum width that you must clear. If you don't do it then the local authority will do it and send you the bill.

When I worked in Germany you were legally obliged to clear snow at the front of your property. Then again in Germany snow is only allowed to fall on its allocated days. :snorky:

I've changed my mind about Mr Trump - as a successful business man, I thought that he would be a refreshing change - and apply his business acumen to the US economy.

His approach to business turns out to be quite ruthless - so doesn't fit at all well into the political arena.

Did you hear the US speech in the UN meeting about Jerusalem - bully boy tactics.

I'm now not sure who is worst - Trump or Kin Yong Un - whichever a potentially lethal combination.

Got to agree, as with him pulling out of the Climate Change Agreement, giving the go ahead for opening coal mines again, burning more fossil fuel on an industrial scale, giving his Business friends less tax to pay, people in the USA might soon not to have to worry about snow, just more forest fires, Hurricanes, smog, desertification, loss of political respect, diminishing power overseas.
I guess it's not all bad as Trump does have friends overseas to support and guide him while he bumbles on looking in the Mirror of Ego and Narcissism given to him by the Russians. Yep, you've just gotta love Trump, he's really doing a "good job" on America............well, that's what the Russians think!!:heehee:

Have a read about the tax reform act..

                By Vito Cosmo:

I have sat silently listening to the liberal pundits of the mainstream media and the Democrats. Now it's my turn to speak. I am a tax practitioner with 33+ years of experience. I developed and taught a course on Tax History and Policy in the Graduate Tax (M.S.) Program of Philadelphia University. My tax collegues in Philadelphia and accross the Country say I'm a Luminary in my field, so maybe, just maybe, I might know a thing or two.

The Liberal Pundits and Democrats are wrong about this tax plan. As usual, they are duping America. This is nothing new. They criticized Reagan's tax reform, the Tax Reform Act of 1986. How did that work out? The economy grew well into the 90s, with even Clinton taking credit. Here are points that Americans need to take into consideration:

                1. Most Americans, especially the Middle Class, will experience tax rate reductions.
                2. The Standard Deduction will be DOUBLED. 74% of Americans utilize the Standard Deduction.
                3. Flow-Through Entities, such as partnerships, S Corporations and LLCs will experience a tax reduction. These are the same businesses that employ most workers and fuel the economy.
                4. Corporations will be subject to a 20% tax rate - the lowest in our lifetime. The Liberal Pundits and Democrats say that is an outrage. I say, really? Corporations employ the middle class and Upper Middle Class. The federal income tax is a cost. Before any company pursues a venture, they prepare a budget. Contained in that budget are taxes. Tax is a cost, just like compensation paid to employees. With the extra cash, companies will pursue ventures that they had forgone under Obama. This will create jobs.
                5. Corporations will now repatriate cash from foreign operations. They will use this cash to increase operations. That will create jobs. More cash will drive up demand. The Liberal Pundits and Democrats say corporations will only use this cash to pay dividends to wealthy shareholders. OK. I'll bite. So what. Even if they're correct, this will drive the surge in the stock market. And, wealthy shareholders own businesses. They will increase operations and create more jobs.
                6. The Liberal Pundits and Democrats say that the repeal of the SALT deduction will hurt taxpayers in high, state tax rate jurisdictions, like CA, NY and NJ. The residents of those states are angry at the President. Their anger is simply misplaced. They should be angry with their Democratic governors and legislatures. NJ has a 9% tax rate. Meanwhile, just accross the Delaware, Pennsylvania has a 3% tax rate. There is no reason for a 9% tax rate.
                7. The Liberal Pundits and Democrats claim that this tax cut will drive up the deficit. I say to them look at the Laffer Curve. It says there are two rates that that produce the same revenue - a high rate and a corresponding low rate.
                8. Even the phrases they use are intellectually dishonest. They say "tax cut". It is not a tax cut. It is a "tax rate cut". It will fuel the economy, which will actually produce more tax revenue.

                Thanks, Vit!

Although I have clicked 'like' it doesn't necessarily mean that I agree - or disagree :heehee:.

I like the enthusiasm and penmanship of the article but am sceptical about the erudition. I have an innate distrust of pundits that laud their own point of view without expanding on their premise. (Sorry! I swallowed a dictionary for lunch. :heehee:)

So, he may be correct but we shall have to wait and see.

Attributing the current rise in the stock market to Trump (he said it was because of him) is being a bit naïve. Over here in the UK we have a record high on our stock market as well and I don't think Brexit has brought that about. The markets are just rising. :noidea:

So I'd rather wait and see and not bother to pitch in on one side of the argument or the other.

I think that we are on opposite sides of the Atlantic and, naturally, view things differently.

As usual, I'm sitting on the fence but it's rather awkward if it's bobbing around in the middle of the Atlantic. :Wino:

I agree with Shiney, Pundits blowing their own Horns like to be in tune with their Political Masters.

The Tax Bill was passed in both Houses by the Republicans while a large number of them admitted that they hadn't read it properly due to the need to pass it quickly:doh:.....and more importantly, because of the last minute numerous deals having to be done with various Republicans with their own agendas.:wallbanging:
So what the good ole' GOP has managed to do, with the whole world looking on, is passing a Tax Bill that wasn't perused by a number of Republicans Politicians who then voted on it, wasn't even in a complete form, until the very last second, and therefore nobody but a few really knew what was in it when they voted for it. At least they have done, unwittingly, one wise [but weak] thing and that is they have allowed Trump to claim all the glory for passing the Bill........which means in the future they can try to step back and point the finger at Trump. I say that, but it strikes me that the GOP will blame Trump who will then blame the Democrats, Muslims, China,
Mexico, North Korea, the FBI, Flynn, and anyone else among the numerous people who have left his administration in the last few weeks.:dunno::heehee:

that person that was in the white house for the last 8 years. could not stand him, the puppet that he was. I wake up every morning thankful that a real president is now there. And so does lots of other Americans, who have spoken. You know folks I kind of find it strange, not once have I picked on your government, or its people who supposedly run it. Yes, America is the greatest country around, and folks do watch it closely. Yes, UK is not even the size of California I get it. Yes, people are knocking swimming through mud to get to the USA, wonder why. hope that changes.

Redstar, as the Actress said to the Bishop "Size does not matter!!":dunno::heehee:

                        You've had another election??:scratch::doh::heehee:

Believe it or not, Redstar, but I have always looked on the USA favourably and in a good light. I think, and know, that the majority of the American population are good and caring people and, in fact, am lucky enough to have some very good friends over there.

I hate to say this, but that might have been true several years ago, but the USA is losing influence and power in the Near East, Middle East, Far East, South America, and the Pacific area, while also looking less credible as what it was i.e: a Super Power. You're right though, "folks" do watch it closely...........but only to see who's just been sacked from the present Administration, the next inane tweet or public speech by Mr Trump that makes the world, and some Republicans, cringe in embarrassment for the USA:doh:. Civilisation's and empires come and go, the British Empire crumbled after WWII, as did other foreign empires. I honestly wonder that now, perhaps, watching the childish antics and politics going within the White House, is the USA starting to slowly diminish?. I hope not because, while Presidents come and go, the USA might still have a purpose in the world other than becoming Isolationist, endangering the friendship and trust of old friends and allies, and becomes a country that doesn't have a President who acts like a Second Hand Car Salesman.:dunno::snorky:

Having said that, redstar, I respect you, your, and other Republicans, beliefs and political views, and mean it when I say God Bless America.:love30::thumbsup::snorky:

Redstar, I, or anyone else, are not picking on your Government:dunno: Our Government, and a lot of others, has, and is, having lots of problems ripe for criticism and lampooning........we know that!!:snorky:
But at least our Politicians try to act reasonably, retained some sort of standing regarding respect even though the public's opinion of them is low. Besides, what is happening in the White House, the lack of viewing of the Tax Bill, before being passed, must be obvious to you, and the rest of the Globe.:dunno:
But what we're seeing going on in the present USA Administration now is more like a low grade Soap Opera, with all the characters looking like actors from a B Movie.........and acting like them. You have a President who openly states that he does not care what repercussions his actions causes, in fact if anything he thrives on it. America is in danger of believing it's a Super Power while not actually being one because it no longer has the influence it had in it's traditional areas. So it might end up looking like Trump, e.e: making lots of narcissistic hot air, insulting and cheapening it's long relationship with genuine friends, while other Powers move in.

The "Soap Opera's" have nothing to do with Trump, he does not want to hide the "swamp style" he wants to drain the Swamp. Those "swamp" behavior was long condoned by the last guy for 8 years and the Clinton's prior to that.
