Sometimes I use the microwave to start them off, then finish them off in the oven. I tend to cook a batch of jacket potatoes at a time, halve, scoop, mash, refill, then freeze. They only take a few minutes in the oven from frozen and taste as good as freshly baked.

It's a good way to do it too!
I often batch cook a basic mince recipe in the slow cooker knowing that once it is portioned up, it can become: bolognaise sauce (with spaghetti one meal, lasagne another); or a chilli (with rice one meal, enchiladas another, calzones another, maybe a stroganoff with noodles); or it is made into savoury mince served in Yorkshire pudding, or cottage pie. :delish:
Likewise with chicken, when that is cooked in the slow cooker it is so succulent and almost falls of the bone running! Curry, chicken enchiladas, fajitas, soup, pies, casserole <img src=" title="WantLick :yummy:" />

    Recipe please :wub2:

@Kandy I do jackets in the microwave too but you can the quickly dry fry them when done to crisp the skins.

I like your phrase ping cuisine so must incorporate that into my vocabulary rather than saying 'nuke'!

@"M" I do exactly the same as you here. After mashing I add chopped onion and cheese triangles. When required I do them in my Phillips Air Fryer ... 5 minutes to heat up to 200c then 10 minutes to cook potatoes.

@"M" I can't freeze my jacket spuds as my freezers are full of a lot of the vegetables and soft fruit that we grow over at the allotment and as my oven is electric it takes twenty minutes just to get it up to a decent temperature, and Mr Kandy would start moaning if he had to wait hours for a spud:snorky:

@Victoria I shall have to have a go at dry frying the jacket potatoes as I think nothing beats the skin of a spud done in the oven and they are a good source of fibre:smile:

I'd like to say that the Beef Hotpot I have has...... a) 21% pure beef ( which I don't think is bad )
              b) 3.8g of fat ( out of a 375 g meal )
              c)only 375 calories

When you live on your own and only have a small freezer in a small flat you can't really batch buy/cook.

What I tried to say before about brands etc is that I wouldn't trust supermarket home makes. I find " Aunt Bessie's" or " Bisto " the best .

Speaking of supermarkets, I don't normally use them at all. I was shocked just before Christmas when I went into Sainsbury's, the meals I buy for 89p were £1.25 and the ones I buy for £1 were £1.50. We also looked at the ice cream, we pay £1 for a Vienetta or £1.50 for two, they were £1.75 EACH.....!!!!! Supermarkets such as Sainsburys, Tescos etcare just a rip-off in my opinion.

The only one we do use occasionally is Aldis.

PS.... The reason we went is it's the only place to get cd's from.

I haven't seen Aunt Bessie's ready meals but I do buy the Bisto lasange/spaghetti bolognese now and again for myself when the kids are having turkey drummers/chicken nugs. They're pretty tasty! I tend to shop in Farmfoods as its at least 25% cheaper than Asda/Tesco for make brands but I do go to asda/tesco for a fresh fruit/meat or things I can't get in FFs like Tassimo discs. but then I only buy them if they're on offer.

@"M" you will have to try and work out the right quantities yourself.

Fry some finely chopped onion until soft but not brown (can add it to the mixture without cooking but I prefer it cooked first).

Beat one egg into a bowl

Add a pinch of salt (to taste) and your favourite spices (I use a little freshly grated ginger, freshly roasted and ground cumin, a pinch of chilli powder, and a few other spices - but you can easily just use some curry powder or paste, or some five spice or similar mixture)

                  Add the onion

As the chicken wings have been boiled to make the soup the meat can be easily rubbed off the bones with your fingers and made into the equivalent of minced chicken by just working it with your fingers. Add to the mixture

Add some medium matzoh meal but can mix medium and fine together (I prefer using matzoh meal to using breadcrumbs or flour - we can get it in Sainsburys and Tescos around here) to bring it to a consistency for moulding it into patties and shallow fry them until the outside is brown and has a nice crispy coating.

If the mixture is too soggy you just add more matzoh meal and if too dry just add a little water.

There's no need to dip the patties in egg and breadcrumbs to form a coating on the outside as the matzoh meal in the mixture will do that without needing to do so.

You can, of course, leave out any of the spices or add garlic to the onion when frying the onion, or any other combination of flavours you like (including herbs)

The matzoh meal gives a lighter consistency than using flour or mashed potato. Matzohs are simply a crisp bread made from flour and then ground to either a fine consistency or a medium one. Using the medium makes it a bit lighter.

If you're gluten free then you use gram flour (chick pea flour) which can also be bought in supermarkets.

For people that are gluten free, gram flour is a perfect substitute for flour when making fried fish. One of the pubs near us only uses gram flour for all their frying instead of flour and it gives a much better and crispy finish.

Went for a walk, on the way back in a single track road there was some horses 2 a breast galuping towards us at full glaup, they didn't slow down past us at all  then some mud flick up and when in my eye.

I bet if i drove past them at the same speed in a single track road i'd be done for careless/dangerous driving :sad:

Totally agree @Jiffy, having been a horse owner for well over 25 years I have
seen the deterioration of RESPECT from drivers to riders and the other way round. No wonder the instances of bad accidents and many horses getting killed on the roads is rising year on year.
Please try to not let this incident colour your judgement the next time you are driving near horses/ponies, just like drivers not all riders are complete morons. When accidents do happen it is often the innocent horse who pays with it's life, the car normally only has a dent and the rider perhaps a few scrapes but can also be badly injured killed.
Why have people just stopped respecting each other? I see this in all walks of life and it makes me feel quite sad. Is it any wonder I choose to live in the countryside with NO neighbours close by...bliss!

We always slow right down to pass horses and give them a wide berth and 99.9% of the riders always smile and put their hand up to say Thankyou but there are a few that completely ignore us and just look straight ahead:sad:

We also put a hand up to say Thankyou to other road users if they slow down or stop to let us through and some do the same but a lot do not,but I remember my driving instructor telling me not to achnowledge other road users when I was learning to drive because he said that only having one hand on the steering wheel meant that I wasn't fully in control of the car and even on the driving test it was a big no no.Do t know what the rules are now for learner drivers:smile: PS,my instructor did always say Thankyou to to other road users when I was on my lessons but he wouldn't let me do it:biggrin:

When I first passed my test and was free to roam the open roads, if I had passengers I would deliberately pull over, slow down, wait, whatever it took just so that I got the smile/wave ...

There are around 14 or 15 Stables within 3 miles of my House, some for amateur riders, some racing stables and even one or two for the big heavy Cob's, so I'm always keeping an eye out for Riders. I have to say that, over the years, I have never not had a wave of thanks for slowing down when overtaking the riders or passing them in the opposite lane. If there are a bunch of riders then I put my headlights on as well as my Hazard lights if I'm waiting to pass as oncoming drivers sometimes don't seem to see the riders until they're on top of them. Sod's Law also means that I'm trying to overtake with a blind bend about 50 yards ahead and that some idiot will come "steaming" around the bend unable to see what's ahead. There doesn't seem to be any age band of those drivers who ignore the riders and roar past when overtaking them with hardly any separation. Only last month when I was on the other side of the road to the riders a guy of around 60+ years overtook the riders at around 50mph, in a 30mph zone just squeezing between my car and the horse waving in temper at the riders.......obviously the guy was "brain dead". My lifelong Friend lives on the fringe of Manchester on a little narrow lane that always seems to have parked cars on either side making it even narrow. There is a Stable nearby that always "dresses" it's Horses with fluorescent covers around their fetlocks, front legs, ears, and backs. The riders all wear fluorescent jackets with "Polite" on the back..........it really does slow drivers down as they seem to mistake the "Polite" for "Police" especially with the Horses geared up as they are.:heehee:
