They look a little bit more friendly than the one's here, as soon as they see humans or quad bike they're off like the clapper's, it can be very hard to get them back in and they just like getting out, holes gets repaired with an old wire, string, pallet etc even the bullocks are just as bad, I even calfed a cow which was calfing and cow had given up and calf was stuck half way and been like it for a few hours, calf was dead, took all my mussle to get it out, the good news cow is now well but took 4 mouths to recover

Good evening Lamb, hogget and mutton are the meat of domestic sheep at different ages in its life. In general, a sheep in its first year is called a lamb, and its meat is also called lamb. The meat of a juvenile sheep older than one year is hogget;older than two years is mutton:smile:

Dog walkers .....before anyone says anything.....I love dogs!!, who walk up our lane and leave 'doggy do' bags hanging off the hedges and trees!! We do have an appropriate bin too!! Grr!

I have even had people pop their dogs offerings into our refuse bins in our driveway.....why can't they take them home!

Here we have more dogs than humans, so some parts are full of dog poo as most of them don't pick up, we even have had it were some human had a poo in some gate way so at the mo we have sheep, cow, all wildlife some human poo (fresh and from sewage works) I just think of the roses

hmm, I was at a posh greek restaurant in our downtown a few years back and ordered lamb with a savoury dressing. It was so tough that when I tried to cut it, I nearly shot it off the plate. I guess the dressing was to cover up it's really being mutton!

There's no excuse for tough meat. I'd have sent it back. If the kitchen is any good at its job they would have known when prepping it that it was tough and it should have been put aside for stewing or casserole or making stock. If it wasn't even suitable for that then they should have sent it back to their supplier.

If it was leg of lamb they should have made a Kleftico with it. That's slow roast marinated lamb. If you do it on a lower temperature for five hours it would be tender. I've even cooked a Stifado in a Greek taverna on Rhodes (a long story :rolleyespink:) using lamb (normally done with beef) when it was a bit tough.

Moussaka is done with minced lamb so should also be tender.

That is why I was so shocked with how tender the lamb was at the restaurant after that lovely day at Shineyland in 2018. I'm sure everyone was wondering why I was hesitating at first over the recommendation but I really was worried about shooting a piece at someone. I couldn't imagine living that type of faux pas down! :thud:

I didn't get to see the culprits @Verdun. It wasn't a neighbour that I'm certain of.

Trouble is everyone seems to come from far and wide to walk their dogs up our lane, through the woods and on to the lakes as there isn't any through traffic. The land is part of a big country estate but does have public right of way paths that they are supposed to stick too , but they don't.Normally the dogs are off their leads too...many a time I have to catch a runaway dog from trampling over our borders only to find it's owner has stopped to chat further up the land and is totally oblivious to the antics of their furry friend!
In the summer we normally have all our doors open and twice now we've had dogs push their way through our hedge ( and it's a thick one too!) run around the whole garden then detour through the kitchen door explore our ground floor before running out via another door!!! Our boundary is as secure as can be.....that was one major thing that had to be dead right as being in childcare OFSTED did rigorous boundary checks during their regular inspections. So these dogs manage to squeeze through miniscule gaps without their owners even noticing them struggling to get through!!

I don't blame the poor dogs at all....sorry to say that it's the owners that get me cross!!

I called into our health centre to pick up another of my wife's prescriptions yesterday. Whilst I was there I asked the receptionist to cancel the doctor's appointment she'd made for the following day, as she needed the results of a recent blood test, which wouldn't have been available as now we have to phone up and make an appointment for a blood test at the local hospital. You used to be able to walk in, now you have to phone and it can take days before you can get through. The doctors appointment was made by him as he assumed she'd have been able to get her bloods done in time.

I had a "quiet word" with the receptionist, asking her to have a word with the practice manger.
My wife had hung on the phone for half an hour that morning waiting for someone to answer, so she could cancel her appointment, but no one was answering, so she gave up. I said if someone answered the phone promptly when they called to cancel an appointment, then there would fewer "number of missed appointments this month," which gets posted on the rolloing LED sign in the waiting area.

In this day and age, answering the phone seems a bit of an inconvenience. You can make an appointment or order a repeat prescription on-line, so phone calls seem to have a low priority.

We use to be surrounded by cows too as our neighbours were dairy farmers ,some fields were rented by horse owners. When the farmer died the head grounds man was moved into the old farmhouse and now all the fields have horses in them..plus deer, rabbits, foxes and more!!

Sad to say that a few years back we had human poop smeared over our car!! Think it was the high jinks of teenagers enjoying the freedom of the summer months before setting off for uni....they tend to camp around the lakes, although this is not allowed. One year their camp fire got out of control and whipped through part of the woods and into the field opposite our house, the poor cows began stampeding, had to phone the old farmer up. We managed to help him get the cows out into the lane before the fire services arrived.

There is a lot to be said for living in the country.....not always as idyllic as people think!!:lunapic 130165696578242 5:
