@shiney Love Island is a British dating game show. It is a revival of the earlier celebrity series of the same name, which aired for two series in 2005 and 2006 on ITV. The series is narrated by Iain Stirling, and was hosted by Caroline Flack until 2019; Laura Whitmore began presenting the series in 2020.:heehee:

It's an incredibly high-brow show produced exclusively for intellectuals.

I found Jerry Mander´s book "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" a most compelling read.
I shudder when I think of all the things I wouldn´t do if I had a telly.

When you have a TV you'll sit there and watch any old useless rubbish. But when you have YouTube you'll be extremely selective about the sort of useless rubbish you watch.

There is a drinking game for this show that comes highly recommended.

What sort of parent with the surname Mander would name a son Gerry - particularly in America? :nonofinger:

Is your copy of the book getting tatty? I read it about 40 years ago :heehee:. I'm surprised that he hasn't written a book about the evils of mobile phones. :noidea:

He went on to write a critique of Capitalism Shiney, I´d read that as well but it would only make me cross.

Similarly here @gks with the New Forest....never venture there ourselves during the summer. Crazy on the roads....just waiting now for the usual sad news of pony casualties from RTA's and fires from BBQ's.

I like the Lake District and know it extremely well. I never recommend anyone going there during the school summer holidays. The parking and driving can be horrendous.

About 15 years ago it was put forward to the local authority that Borrowdale valley be closed to private vehicles for the school holidays - with passes being allowed for holidaymakers booked into local establishments. It caused an uproar amongst local residents who survive on the tourist trade. It was soon kicked out as a resolution.

As this is the moan thread:- a local newspaper should know not to call it Borrowdale Valley :nonofinger:. It is Borrowdale and if referring to it as a valley (which runs through) they shouldn't be using a capital V (it is only acceptable in that form if it is in a heading).

I get annoyed at publications that get things wrong and not at people who do so. :paladin:

Especially as he ran his own advertising company for 15 years (with partners). :rolleyespink: Did he see the light or an opportunity to capitalise on it. :heehee:
