I find Wickes to be the worst at stock control. Best to use click and collect, it saves time and avoids having to wander through the store near other people.

I get sceptical of Wickes online stock checker when it show an item 'out of stock' in my local store, but some virus infested town 25 miles away has 2, 517 in stock.

Wickes are terrible at keeping the shelves stocked but they usually have it out the back if you can actually locate any staff to fetch it! To say they're idle scrotes would be unfair to idlers everywhere

Maybe they do actually have 2,517 items "out the back" and have nothing on their shelves for weeks on end, and when they're asked why there's nothing displayed the reason they tell me that it's because "their online system is a load of rubbish" is wrong and actually because they're just too idle to go and get some.

Or it could be because they have a different stock control system instore to the one online and there's nearly always a mismatch between the two, so when they tell me they're OOS looking at their instore system, if it's stuff kept outdoors I can have a look around and tell them where up on their racking there's hundreds of them.

Agree, last year we had a number of pallets of fertiliser which were not available to the general public, we politely told them that we also supply trade customers and those fertilisers were already spoken for.

We used to offer "pre-order" online for certain lines, like bare rooted fruit and ornamental trees. We stopped doing it due to how many people could not understand what pre-order means. We make it very clear on pre-order items that goods will not be despatched until a specific month. As you know, ground grown will not be lifted till the back end but some people think they should get them when placing an order in August, they even have the nerve to put the blame entirely on us and send rude and obnoxious messages, calling us "con artists". A lot of companies offer pre-order, especially when there is limited supply, but unfortunately, some people only see what they want to see.

Nah. I thought, 52 in stock - B&Q can't be so wrong that there are in fact none. How wrong was I. Managed to get it from a local DIY shop and only a quid more than B&Q's 'once in a lifetime - can't be repeated special offer price'.

Unless it's an amazing bargain and when you turn up to collect the staff nervously attempt to explain it was a stock level error, and they've snaffled the lot there's none in stock, but all the full price stuff is available. Happens far too often.

Well, after watching some of these T&T's going past the house into a blind bend i've noticed that some of the drivers are not connecting the oil pipe for the brakes on the trailor :nonofinger: so the trailor has no working brakes :yikes:

                    Some rather lighter moans. :)

                    Adverts:-

I heard two ads on the radio yesterday that made me think how clever (or not) advertisers are.

The first was for Zego (insurance for taxi drivers).

After all their blurb they said that they are cheaper than almost one in two of other insurers. It may have sounded good but that seems to say to me that there's over 50% chance of getting it cheaper elsewhere.

                    The second was for Esso.

They are offering this fantastic deal to Nectar card owners - 5p per litre off in return for 300 Nectar points. 5p off sounds a good deal - but - 300 Nectar points are worth £1.50 so you will need to buy at least 31 litres to be on the plus side (by 5p). Under 30 litres and you are being conned! This doesn't take into account any Nectar points you may earn for your purchase. If, like me, you would need to go out of your way to get to an Esso station the extra petrol needed to get there would not make sense even for a larger amount of petrol.

Seen in the window of Vision Express.

They have a company wide poster advertising the Covid precautions they are taking. Included in it was this “We have fewer seating in order to make your visit safer”.

As I have said many times on GC, I don't expect people in a social group like ours to need to bother about spelling or grammar but I do expect businesses, government and official places to get it correct.

There has been a lot on the media recently about mistaking the difference between fewer and less and in a majority of cases they say that you need to use the word 'fewer'. Obviously the person designing the poster took notice of it - and then used it wrongly! :dunno:

And I thought that there was light at the end of the tunnel:

Warnings have been issued a turkey shortage could hit Christmas dinner tables across the country this year.

Why? Have the turkey's stopped reproducing?

It's decades since I cooked a turkey. In fact it's decades since I last celebrated Christmas.
