All part and parcel of the great 'ecological' scam being perpetrated by our respective governments.

I heard on the news that France had recalled it's ambassador from the US and Australia, but they didn't mention the UK.

Unless it was just the way our corner shop weighed them out?

The thing is, this is not being mandated as far as I can work out - yet again it is something that is being portrayed by our media in a polar fashion, but that is not the case. It was only around 2000 or so that our market stalls etc could sell fruit and veg by the lb or milk by the pint where they wanted to -- nothing at all stopping them also showing grams or millilitres, but it was a free choice. Most folk back then would buy in imperial quite happily, but the EU mandated that it had to be metric. It is that mandatory part that is being removed, and going back to it being a choice.

If you go into a pub and buy a pint of beer, you buy a pint - - as long as you get a pint and not three quarters of a pint, where is the problem? If you then go into Wickes and buy 5 litres of paint, again where is the problem?

That's ok, the educational system may have left them as blissfully ignorant of metric as any other measurements. My bright child hasn't got a clue what 1cm thick slices could look like, and happily tries to measure 500 mm of sugar.

I will be totally lost with the pounds and stones, fathoms and barleycorns and whatnots, it will probably feel very exotic. Almost like being in a foreign country. Wait... :heehee:

It was probably their way of going metric, at the time.
I can remember DIY shops selling timber in 300mm units, but they always stated, "we have now gone metric ".

The account scandal scuppered all their involvements in nuclear, that's the reason why Moorside fell through. I think the South Carolina nuclear construction which they and Westinghouse were constructing cost roughly 9 billon before it was scrapped.

This going back to imperial measurements is just to appeal to a certain type of voter, besides that its another distraction, people tend to pickup on the most outrageous news items and ignore the more important stuff, plus is good clickbait for online toilet......err news papers.

I keep reading this endless garbage coming out of the government, it doesn't bother me at all because I know one day I will wake up and realise I was dreaming about a remake of Monty Python.

I need to pay a bill and the recipient wants it done by bank transfer, its not something I have done before so out came the never used card reader and I logged onto online banking, this was last night.
Jumped through a series of security hoops on the bank website, even got a code number sent to my phone, all going well I thought, then when I put my card in the card reader it said no power.
I've probably had it for about 5yrs. Guessing batteries dead.

So I thought I'd give the bank a call and do it over the phone, went through all the bla bla blah aging after waiting to get someone on the other end of the phone.
Turned out he couldn't do it either, the technology had beaten him aswell.

Anyway, poked around with a knife and managed to get the batteries out and by a stroke of luck I actually had two spare batteries that fitted.

Just gone online a jumped through all the hoops again and at the end it said ,Activate your card reader, so went through another load of security doing that, then found all the other info I had put in had vanished. :dunno:

Its driving me slowly around the bend, and I'm not sure if I've paid the bill or not to be honest.
I might have yet another go tomorrow.

@pete Wife's not long gone through a similar experience with some card making supplier, flaming card read needed activating numerous times and each time the details failed so we gave up on it, Monday morning she emailed the online shop who arrange to pay over the phone instead of transfer, its so ridiculous, a card reader to increase security that doesn't work without a load of grief so you do an over the phone payment.

I guess the number of people and companies who can not show competence is becoming longer by the day.
