I forgot that. I know we shopped at The Co-op (they did a weekly delivery of tinned products) but yes I remember Green Shield too.

We can still do that in our local Budgens, in the nearest small town, as they get those from the egg farm in our village. They also sell pre-packaged ones.

My late Father worked for what was then Booker McConnell which owned Budgens along with various other businesses.
I remember a new store was opening and some bright spark ( whether it was Father or not, not sure:), he certainly was admitting nothing) decided it would be a great idea to offer a free frozen chicken with every purchase on day 1.
Ok then, so people were going into the store buying a box of matches getting a chicken and repeating the process again and again. The store had to shut after about an hour as unsurprisingly it ran out of free chickens and a riot was brewing:roflol:.

We used to get green shield mostly on petrol and some cigarettes had like 20 inside the packet, I think they we called Cambridge.
Pricerites gave S&H pink stamps I think.
Eventually green sheild came up with the stamp that was worth 10 of the ordinary ones, saving the tongue a bit .

As well as green shield stamps we got Co-oP stamps. Used to get loads of these after buying school uniform stuff.

Our school uniform was a real school uniform - could only be bought from the school! :heehee:

Ok folks I've seen it for myself today. The road out of Thanet is completely blocked by selfish motorists blocking the main road both ways in their attempt to get fuel.

Yes you can blame the Media, the Government, but ha lets not blame ourselves at all.

This, I'm all right Jack attitude stinks, filling their tanks to the brim, plus any container with fuel. These people should hang their heads in shame.

Oh, just seen at statement from my local Waitrose that they will probably be unable to make delivery's because of no fuel.

Just watching lunch time BBC news.

They are yet again talking up the fuel problem, the really annoying part is for at least 4minutes while while various reporters were talking, they were showing drone footage of queuing traffic, dated 25 September.
Can they not find a queue today to film.

One of the problems stems back from the great recession. Many retailers and manufacturers went down the route of JIT, just in time. This method can work very well, especially when you have a well timed supply right through the supply chain. Unfortunately, when faced with pandemics, disasters, shipping incidents, severe weather etc etc then this method soon becomes flawed, leaving us with delays and shortages. If everyone carried on with life in a normal fashion, then disruption would be minimal, unfortunately to many people don't, hence why we are seeing this panic buying.

I personally think this could be the end of the JIT, we need to be better prepared for the future and JIT is not the way forward.

I'm just wondering how the poor old supermarkets are fairing during this fuel issue.
Yeah they are selling all the fuel they can get, but is anyone getting through the blocked roads to buy food.
