    Removing the labels from the plastic tubs of Walkers Nonsuch Assorted Toffees and Chocolate Eclairs. I have been soaking in soapy water for hours with not a lot of success.

      I was reading about tips for removing old labels, recently. White vinegar or a solution of bicarb came out top. Heat helps melt old glue, also, but it would have to be gentle on plastic :)

          If glue still left on jar we use coconut oil, rub in leave for a time then wash off

            Thanks Jiffy but 1) it is plastic and 2) we don't have any coconut oil.

              Perhaps scoring the surface of the label will let the water soak through? Some of those shiny labels have a thin plastic coating you need to breach.

                The glue they use on labels is really OTT.

                I think you should take the item back if the label doesn't come off cleanly.

                Some label glue appears to need solvents to get it off, white spirit is my starter followed by cellulose thinners, or if that fails PU thinners.
                But it depends what its on as some plastic is damaged by thinners.

                I sometimes think the glue actually reacts with some plastics to be imposable to shift.

                  I use Naptha (lighter fuel). I found it was recommended for delicate cellulose finish on old guitars and have used it ever since on all my instruments.

                    Another thing. The furries were 'done' this morning with Frontline Combo and both have been indoors sleeping most of the day ... on a lovely sunny day. I commented it was strange and J said he had noticed this happening on other occasions. We have always used this brand so I wonder if something has changed.

                      Interesting ... but I don't think we have bought lighter fluid in about 35 years. J might be interested in his renovation projects.

                        The three current chemicals used are Fipronil, Imidacloprid and Permethrine. I'm pretty sure that Frontline used to be permethrine-based but insects were developping resistance, so they substituted fipronil.

                          @Victoria @noisette47

                          We switched away from drops to tablets for our cat, she now gets one chewable Credielio once a month, active ingredient Lotilaner. That's for fleas and ticks. Then every three months another tablet Milprazon against worms etc. It contains Milbemycin Oxime 16mg, Praziquantel 40mg.

                          She hated the drops and as soon as I started opening the packaging she dashed off and hid, they made her eyes stream even before I applied it to her nape. Cats eh?

                          The tablets I have to crush up and hide in her food, even then she often leaves it until she is really hungry.
