I can understand a fire starting at an electricity substation, I just wonder how much combustible material there would be to cause a fire that lasts that long and that intense.

Edit. just heard its cooling oil, sounds like a good idea:scratch:
Lets cool it with something that burns really well.

It's a very good insulator though and not that easy to start it burning, high flashpoint and ignition temperature.

Well this one certainly reached the high flashpoint easy enough.

If they could grow replacement organs, skin for grafts and so on in the lab, that would be a good thing. I suppose it's only a matter of time.

My friends partner works at Roslin Institute (dolly the sheep) and they have means of producing 8k tons of protien (subsitute beef) from one egg
They only are at the early stages at the moment so only about 100kg a day
He has tried it and says it is just like fillet steak in consistensy, though they are working on the colour, and how to present it to the public
At the moment I would be a bit feared to put it in my mouth

Wasn't there a case some years ago of them growing a human ear on the back of a mouse.
My worry with lab grown meat is what stops it growing after you have eaten it.
Could end up being like in the film Alien.

I want to see a breakdown of its nutritional profile before I will eat it. And if it is going to be ultra-processed to make it palatable, it’s a non-starter, IMV.

I can see factory grown protein being used in ready meals and also as feed for animals and fish.
The technology will rapidly move from lab to factory (economy of scale) once you need tonnes of product.
Will it be safe for human consumption? Yes. Would I choose to consume it? No. Will I get a choice? Maybe maybe not.
Another thing to bear in mind is that lab grown meat requires inputs, power, water, mineral salts, glucose, fertiliser and these will have to come from somewhere.
Also one factory 1000s of tonnes of grown meat, one fire, one cyberattack = hungry people.
Currently farm animals are fed on a mixture of things, most of which ultimately come from photosynthesis and fresh water and it is a distributed, dispersed system difficult to put out of action.

I've seen a video of that mouse. Poor mouse doesn't seem to have much fur and they don't show how they remove the ear or what happens to the mouse after. I think the ear was made out of cow cartilage etc. Then some other videos of weird animals popped up.

Has anyone had one of those emails from National Grid asking if one is ready for power cuts? We've had two, but they are sent to old email addresses that we used to use for previous gas/elec suppliers. They are genuine although their database is not up to date. But what are these power cuts that they are preparing us for?
