Probably just getting us ready for when we all have EVs and all plug in at the same time every evening.
The grid struggles when there is some big event on TV and everyone plugs in their kettle during the commercial break so its coming at some point in the future.

I was reading earlier about the lack of resilience/redundancy in the systems supporting Heathrow. Apparently there were backup generators. They were located on the same site as the sub-station which went up in flames!

 Who planned that then? Someone promoted well beyond their expertise level, doubtless.

I think in 10 yrs time, we will look back and marvel that we had been lucky enough to experience decades of reliable, affordable power and clean water on tap 24/7. Where we are headed is not going to be easy … except for the super-wealthy, of course, who will be unaffected by any inconveniences or shortages.

So two of Trumps cronies are going to visit Greenland, not actually invited but presumably going to eye up the real estate before the planned invasion.
I hope all the people who voted for him are starting to realise what havoc they have unleashed upon the whole world, and especially America.
Having alienated their closest allies, he has also trashed their lucrative defence industry. Would you buy a used F35 from that man?

I was only thinking to myself the other day, 20 yrs ago you would never have forseen how things are now.
Even way back when I was young things were not exactly affluent but I've never seen people queueing outside a food bank like I do twice a week around here now, perhaps because there was no food banks back then?

I cant help thinking a lot of our problems are manufactured these days because some one somewhere is making money out of it all.

Kids not working, because they have mental health issues?
When I left school not getting a job was not an option, you did whatever came along if you had no real plan, but claiming benefit was only for the very odd few, and there was a stigma attached.
Every year they seem to come up with a new mental disorder and once diagnosed the money rolls in, even adults are jumping on the bandwagon and suddenly finding they have been suffering from Adhhhhwhatever for years but have only just found out.

I think we are doomed as a society until someone gets a grip, maybe Putin could actually sort it out for us, because I think that is where we are heading, hopefully not in my lifetime.

I’m not sure Putin is the answer, @pete. ;)

I was reading an article today about fresh produce being sprayed with something called Apeel, to prolong its shelf life. The downside is the stuff cannot be washed off. It adheres like a tasteless soap and locks moisture in, but anyone eating the food automatically ingests it. It contains traces of heavy metals. You have to wonder what sort of problems this could cause down the line, when everyone has an oesophagus and stomach lining coated with the stuff. Maybe the end of humanity won’t be caused by war or pestilence, but your 5 a day. :dunno:

What annoys me about Food Banks ( and some other charities too ) is that they can be extremely picky about what they will accept. I'm not suggesting that food shouldn't be edible or that useless/worn out stuff is a good idea but if someone expects something for free, they need to lower their expectations somewhat.
Not sure Putin would actually improve matters - labour camps or fatal "accidents" are his usual way of dealing with anyone he deems to be "not friendly ".
That's interesting @ViewAhead ........ is that all fresh produce or just certain types ? Nothing would really surprise me on the food productiion issue these days.

A friend works for a German supermarket chain and they told me the other day that the "waste" which is supposed to go to charities, well doesn't, instead a lot of it is taken home by staff. There are actual limits on the amount of reduced stock they are allowed to sell because of waste control levels, so some just gets written off and skipped. They say it's no different at any of the supermarket chains.

At our allotment there is a scheme to collect spare produce for food banks but it now has to be under lock and key because people were helping themselves to things that they wanted before it was taken to the food bank. It was clearly marked but people don't think it's stealing as it's for a food bank.

I had a Saturday job in a bakers shop when I was at school. It was part of a chain. At the end of the day, any left over stock had to be listed and reported, and the items thrown into a wooden box to be returned. They had to be thrown in, in such a way as to be broken up, made me very sad to see the cream cakes mashed to bits! Very occasionally, the manageress would let us take something home, but most of the time, rules were rules. Seemed so wasteful.
I did hear from someone who worked in the food hall of a big chain store, at the end of the day, they were allowed to buy unsold stock at a discount. However, they ended up having restrictions placed on them, after it was discovered that some staff were holding back specific items that they wanted, so they were unsold at the end of the day.

I only really used Putin as what could happen if we dont get off our backsides and sort the country out, no Putin would be a nightmare and something we really dont want.

There has always been this "thing" in all industries that we would rather throw it away than let people have it @Ergates, I used to take offcuts of timber out of the company skip and if you were caught you were in trouble.
If you owned up you were allowed to buy it.:biggrin::biggrin:

Its only worth money if somebody wants it.;)

Probably if you analysed a cup of tea you would find all kinds of stuff in it that is potentially harmful, I've just been told not to drink too much coffee, I only have two cups a day.:roflol:

Everything is slowly killing us, but that starts the day you are born, or possibly before.
My Mum smoked and had the occasional drink, probably why I've turned out so bad.
