I have some delivered but still go get the things I like to ponder over, they often send things that I wouldn't pick, if you let them .:smile:I never have fruit delivered or meat and fish, they just send the stuff off the top of the pile.

I just read about Starmer setting up "return hubs" with other countries. I read it but did not understand the mechanics of it at all! I'm feeling like a numpty. Can anyone translate this for me please?

A very good question. Return hubs - also called kicking the ball into the long grass, I think.

@CanadianLori I heard on the news he's trying to do a deal with places like Albania as a means to gather deported illegal immigrants there and then send them home safely. The intention is, apparently, to frustrate the trafficking gangs and end their business.

Can't see how it will work tho as the UK will end up paying to deport people to Albania, paying to keep them in Albania and paying to send them on afterwards. Surely best to pay just once and send them on just one journey and, better still, to speed up and refine the processing the claims for asylum are heard within weeks, rather than years, and save all the money on hotels and hostels to house and feed them because they're not allowed to work whilst waiting to be processed.

Nor does that stop the people traffickers who do get people into the UK from exploiting them as effectively slave labour in car washes, secret cannabis farms, "nail salons" and as prostitutes.

System broken and needing a complete rethink.

What does that word mean?

                    That's good.

At the time that I go all the new stock has been put out and I get the pick of the best. Veg and fruit vary considerably on the displays and I can get the best and the biggest. Some things can vary enormously e.g. I've seen almost a kilo difference in the caulis.

Last week we were having people round for a roast. I found .75kl difference in the size of the extra large chickens (all showed their weight on the package and all at the same price). Even the thick cut steak can vary quite a bit (they don't show the individual weight but I put them on the scales to check - my middle name is Scrooge :roflol:) and found one of them 42g over weight.

More importantly I get the choice of quality. :)

According to The Guardian, @shiney, Albania is already in discussions with Italy for the same sort of thing and so refuses to entertain Starmer till that's done.

Where I go they are still filling the shelves at 11am sometimes.
Only yesterday's left overs if you go early.

A lot of supermarkets have reduced the night shift when the restocking used to be done, so they have to restock when open.
Also down here traffic can delay delivery lorries meaning they have to get the stuff on shelves as soon as the lorry arrives.
Another hazard at one supermarket I use is the number of staff filling boxes for home delivery or pick up. About 8 boxes per carrier and 6 to 10 of these trundling around especially fairly early in the mornings.

Our one is very large and on the edge of the industrial estate so the lorries have no problems at all.

They still have a full complement of night staff to fill the shelves and the home delivery staff usually get in by 6 a.m. It's the main base for filling delivery orders so everything has to be fully stocked quite early. I get there at 6 a.m. and a large proportion of the order fillers know me. They even tell me where things have been moved to when the 'powers that be' decide to change where in the store they want things to be stocked. It drives the fillers mad and they have to use their hand held stock list computers (think they are usually called mobile phones :heehee:).

As I pass them as I walk around the store they let me know when things have been moved. :blue thumb:

The one I use was told they can't have deliveries until a certain time and not overnight as the lorries were keeping the local residents Awake .
