I'd cut one on the outside to start, it will then sort itself out as you progress!

A ball of string that has a hole in the middle usually unravels from the inside, I find.

Ben is expert at unraveling your balls of string, is he not, @pete?

Here is a bit of knowledge on how the universe works, goodness knows where it came from but its true.

If you stand a ball, roll, cone or skein of string upright, the start is on the outside at 2'oclock, unravelling counterclockwise. If that doesn't work, turn the ball upside down and look again.

Please do report back on how it goes @lizzie27 . I'm confident on my theory

Evening weather forecasts which show endless sunny pics of the day's weather ( we're already aware of that ) and then mention the "possibility" of rain "sometime in the furture". Not a lot of use really :wallbanging:

The forecasts I don't like are the ones that confidently suggest rain but in reality it doesn't come. We seem to live in a world where they think rain is bad news and that people would rather it be forecast and not come, than for it to be forecast as sunny and end up with a bit of rain.

In related news, I have never seen so many attempts locally to start fires as I have this year. In our local woods there are quite a few that I have walked passed, ranging from small burn marks upto a 4-5m tree (which had wood stacked as a shelter), it's really worrying to see. I noticed a few cameras put up on the entrance yesterday so I don't know if it's related but it's not very accessible for anyone trying to put them out.

Last week we had forecasts of heavy rain with the risk of localised flooding. Reality was heavy rain for about an hour.

@Thevictorian you could well be right in that many people don't look forward to rainfall and much prefer the recent weather pattern. My garden and I would certainly welcome some tho.
That is worrying about the attempts to start fires in your area. "Wildfires" have been prolific in many places recently but the arsonists also seem more prevalent too. It's a very weird mindset to find a thrill in devastation.

I think gardeners want some rain in the spring and summer but others don't really. Then they wonder why there's a hosepipe ban and they can't wash their car or let their children have a paddling pool.

The last four balls of string I have used unwind from the outside. The end is carefully hidden under the another loop of the string to make it difficult for you. Try and look to see whether there is a slight bulge in one of the winds and it is likely to start just under that.

I get through a lot of string and have become fairly expert at finding it - after a long frustrating time having searched in the past.

@wiseowl they do get used on here, I've had a moan recently about it, but I have a simple answer for myself. I just ignore any post that has them in. If members comment on a post that I have made I don't actually see it. :noidea:
