Blimey, six weeks! I thought I was hard on socks...

That reminds me, I must dig out those boxer shorts that have basically nil for a gusset left and bin them... every time I go to lob them out, Mrs C washes them and they reappear in my drawer.

        Narr, he needs new feet.

1976 summer was only 3 months long, beginning of June to the start of September, it then rained like never before the whole autumn.
The drought was actually longer and started in '75 if I remember correctly.

I was working in a workshop that had roof lights, and the afternoon sun was blazing down on you while you worked, the wood dust stuck to you and you went home like it.
Mahogany was the worst as it stained you and your clothes dark red.

Happy days, we just got on with it, nobody really cared, we had only just got away from the 3 day week a few years earlier I think.

@Jiffy , you get what you paid for. It's time to invest in very good, solid quality socks. :old:

Such as the 5-pack of striped ankle socks The Child still wears all the time even though they are so small the heel is closer to the toes than the human heel.... £1 from ASDA in 2007  Not a hole in sight!

OH is my weather forecaster. For some reason, I have no attention span when it comes to weather forecasts on the tv / radio. Invariably, I switch it on to listen, and next thing I’m aware of, it’s finished and I have no idea what they said. I have to insist that OH gives me the gist of it in no more than one short sentence eg might rain later, take coat! He is also good at finding and interpreting the rain radar, and the reported lightning strikes. Did some meteorology when he was doing his pilots licence.
We live not that many miles from the Met Office, and we swear that the forecasters look out of the windows at work to see what’s happening! There are sometimes noticeable changes in the forecast depending on the time of day. By late afternoon, the next day’s forecast says one thing. Then overnight, it changes to something completely different, then around 9 am, it reverts to the original prediction. We reckon that the night staff are less experienced, or just get power crazy! Then the regulars come in for the morning shift, roll their eyes and change it back, having had a good look at the sky on their drive into work!

Can't find any, i've even paid £15 for a good pair and holed them in 9 weeks

I do use cream to keep them as soft as a baby's bum but i think it doesn't work
£15 pair holed in 9 weeks so i buy the cheap'o's at 75p a pair as they seem to hole in 6 weeks so better value for money, i'm even thinking about being bear foot

I have dug them out and binned them! In fairness, I think I've had them for over 20 years. My clacker-packet will be thankful to be that bit warmer.

Thank you @Jiffy for your public service post.

I have to say I can’t remember either OH or me getting holes in our socks? Current socks are made mainly from bamboo, and very comfortable. Used to buy cotton mix ones, and they mainly got thrown out when they became too rough or had shrunk too much. Seemed to last for years though. Rarely wear tights now, but I remember wearing stockings in my younger days, and they would ladder almost as soon as I got them out of the packet. Very annoying and very expensive.

Why do the evening weather forecasters ( local and national ) insist on telling us what the weather has been like that day ? Unless we've spent the day underground, I suspect we are already aware of what it's been like in the preceeding 12 hours. Or do they deliberately do this to use up their alloted time frame - may rain, could be windy, might have sun somewhere doesn't take up much time. They also suggest you check a website to see what your weather is likely to be like in the next couple of days. If you follow their advice and rely only on a website, what's the use of their "forecast" ? Won't be long before they will end with " ..if you've been affected by this, you can phone ***** for further help/advice

We seem to have weather presenters that always end up whispering, just a small thing but I find it annoying.
many years ago we had one that would say things like.
RAIN, no rain expected but might get a shower.
WIND, fairly brisk but not too strong.
SUN, not much sun, but there could be a few sunny spells.

I think she probably did military forecasts as well.:roflol:
