One of my earliest memories - I won one in a raffle at a circus. I can still remember it being called : "it's a blue ticket, number 59" and jumping up to go to the stage, and my parents trying to pull me back convinced I couldn't be right.

It was pink and yellow, with long very synthetic fur.

The term "woke" is a sad story in my opinion.

It all started right, with people literally awakening to see what injustises are all around us just now. Black men being shot by the police because they are jogging in the evening. Women always taking a taxi instead of metro from the pub because a lone woman is a target. Children who don't have a toothbrush. Homosexual couple who have to plan their children based on where the legislation and their funds allow it. Homosexual people executed because they had sex.

Young generation lifting their heads up and seeing that this is actually happening just now, and it's not right, is in my opinion a very good thing.

Sadly, the term quickly became an insultury one, washing out the good sentiment behind it.

It's easy to mock and belittle especially when some people go on tangent and start to grab the term and fly it like a flag between updates of their latest lash lifts, but I still think it is important for people to "woke" and look at what's actually going on today.

Empathy and kindness are important. :)

"Be Kind" is what women are always told. "Be kind, be good, be quiet, don't rock the boat"

Be kind and let the man use your changing room or he'll be sad. Be kind and call the 6ft guy with a 5 o'clock shadow "she".

No, the men can be kind. I've had it.

I'm not talking about them being kind to me. I'm talking about them doing the "being kind" to the people they want me to "be kind" to.

But in general, it's seen as the woman's job.

@pete just because you haven't read about it in UK media does not mean it is not happening or that it is just someone's propaganda.

Democrats have been shot and injured as well as shot and killed and the kind of trolling encouraged by that dead "christian" often went further to stalking and worse, creating real fear in the women and homosexuals they target. It's despicable.

Tbh, there are lots of people shot every day, especially in the US, there are lots of people killed in the UK but it's the reason for the killing that creates the headlines.

Maybe the other killings you refer to were not done in full view of the public at a political gathering, I don't know.

Also if they are I'm pretty sure the BBC would jump on it.
Maybe there is no real proof it was done for political reasons,I don't know.

Lots of things happen all around the world so just because I don't hear about it it's not a case that I don't believe them when I do, I just find sifting through all that is out there and finding a non biased story quite difficult.

I try not to wear blinkers, both sides are often at fault.

Re men not being kind, in the way women are expected to be: I've just been reading about Leo Varadkar, who's recently resigned as Taoiseach (equivalent of PM) of the government in Ireland. I didn't know, and I suspect most of Ireland didn't either, that during Covid he found time to work as a GP (his job before being elected to government) in among his other activities. (Incidentally, Ireland had almost the lowest death rate from Covid in Europe, so he wasn't neglecting his goverment duties.) And more recently, he and his partner hosted a Ukranian refugee in their home for 9 months.
                      That's kindness, in my book.

I was kind this morning, i looked out of the upstair window and there was a free range bullock walking down the road and no humans to be seen, so i went out to stop it going on down the road, i knew the bullock and it had got out of a field but was being moved by the owner back to where it came from, after a few minutes no humans about so i got siad bullcok into the farm yard and shut it into a shed so it could be sort later, as the owner was moving said bullock they were a long time coming down the road to find where she was, then after a good few minutes the owner turns up and i think he was a bit surprize that i got she in and shut in a shed

Another good deed done today

I may be wrong, but the impression I got from Escarpment’s observation about women being told to be kind, quiet, good and not rocking the boat has its origins in the old nursery rhyme.

I well remember being told that as a girl in the fifties and sixties I was not allowed to whistle. Why not? I am a champion whistler. I can recall a wayward dog from 300 yards with my whistle. But girls and women just don’t do that kind of thing, do they? Even nowadays a loud whistle from a woman makes heads turn.

Trump's 2nd "state visit" coming up which will no doubt entail more toadying and a*se licking by both the govt and Royals. Wonder what they hope to achieve - other than yet more hot air. Maybe time to put your whistling to the test @Tidemark - preferably a discouraging one rather than an encouraging "come to me" one

I think it's still OK to whistle a tune isn't it? Or to call a dog, if it's trained to respond to a whistle. Just no wolf-whistling at people.
