What else are they going to build massive housing developments on.
There is only so many small developments that you can fit in on other types of land, we could build on public parks, we could do more town cramming but I dont fancy either of those options .
Latest is massive solar parks on large areas, but then we are supposed to be planting trees:roflol:, I dont think the green lobby have a realistic plan that fits in with the house building plans.
Oh and then we have the environmentalist, habitat loss for wildlife, I'm with them to be honest, but they seem to lose out most of the time, at least that can fit in with farming.
Doesn't fit in with most of the other ideas.

@pete - fix up the 1.5million permanently empty homes, convert empty factories and office blocks into apartments. Clean up and build on brown field sites.

The new Tillbridge solar farm will be built on 3,000 acres of agriculture land in Lincolnshire a year after approval for Gate Burton solar farm, also in Lincolnshire covering 1,650 acres.

The problem is that a lot of the 1.5 million empty places are empty for a reason, wrong place, derelict, cost more to sort out than they are worth, easier to dig up a green field in the right place.

Lots of so called brown field sites are contaminated or again in the wrong places, or too small to make a common sense difference.
          No infrastructure is being built.

I agree, I dont like them building on farm land but where else do you build a development of 5 thousand or more houses, which is what is being called for along with new towns.

Don't see many permanently empty houses around here, or empty factories, lots of the land has recently had a massive industrial site built on it, there isn't many of this empty stuff in my area.

This doesn't always end well and can be expensive, it can be cheaper to demolish and build proper houses or flats.

They want to build a solar farm near here but there are lots of protests about it. There are lots of windfarms, and even though they are on the tops of hills they are motionless a lot of the time.
There's one small village which has doubled in size recently with all the new housing developments they've built around it, and they were built on green fields.
But there's another place with literally hundreds of new houses, but they were not built on green fields.
And just down the road on the outskirts of the little town near here, they have also built houses on old derelict works sites.

There are grants available to renovate run down houses eg Landlords invited to apply for £20,000 empty homes grants - Landlord Today and Home

A government scheme to encourage jobs to be moved there, including some of the vast swathes of civil servants down south, would reduce pressure on housing in the south east where resources such as water are too scarce. Improving transport links such as between Liverpool and Manchester and/or trans Pennine would make a huge difference too.

If it's more efficent then yes, knock down old buildings and build new but I have to say that a lot of the older stuff is better built than new stuff and it wouldn't take much to add insulation, improve the windows and water and power will already be on site.

I've received special Christmas offers in emails from both Tesco and Sainsbury's. There is absolutely nothing that I would buy in them and have never bought any of them. I thought they were supposed to be good at targeted sales. I would opt out of receiving their emails but I find it interesting to see what they think most people would want to buy. It only takes a few seconds to scroll down.

I too wonder about their targetting @shiney. I get weekly specials on my fidelity card app, sometimes 50 or more, but very few are products I buy. However, the weekly 10% off all fruit and veg is great and there's always an offer on either the meat and poultry, fish or dairy produce that come in useful.

I get similar offers, nothing on things I usually buy, its obviously to get you to try other stuff, I've stopped even looking at the app as that is where my offers come in, but they are pointless.

I got a printed out offer at the till when I went in this morning, I think the printer needs more ink, half of the offer is unreadable, the only words readable are morrisons photo, all products and B Friday.:dunno:

Its usually a cup of coffee in their cafe, never used it. Why would I i'm only quarter of a mile away and I have a coffee machine at home.

I don't have an app but receive emails. I could stop the emails but I let them come just in case there is something I may be interested in.
