Hi All, I know this may be a shot in the dark as I have no picture; but there is a garden I walk past every now and then and they have a wonderful large shrub in the front garden, I'm 99.5% certain it is some form of lilac, but I haven't seen it before.

Rather than mid-green smooth leaves of the common lilac it has very deep/dark green leaves that seem more robust and also seem to have slightly wavy edges; they are the same shape and size though. The flowers which are just out are the usual lilac type but not as dense, they are more open and far more delicate in nature and in my opinion far more attractive. The colour is mid-purple with a slight bluish tinge...

    Any ideas guys?

Oh and if I was 'cheeky' enough to ask for a cutting do lilac readily take from semi-ripe cuttings or is a hardwood cutting or sucker the only way?
