I know what the surface flooding around my way is like today, so I can only imagine what that has done round your way @Zigs

Didn't rain much today for a change, roads are puddled all over, but getting used to where the worse bits are. The pot holes are terrible though, loads more of them.

Thank goodness you didn't get much more mate - although, there is more to come yet looking at the forecast. I know what you mean about the potholes, even around here there are more and more scars and holes appearing on a daily basis.

It was stated on the news today that 25 square miles are flooded. If the floods are only 500mm deep, that's over 32 million cubic metres of floodwater to get rid of. At what rate are the pumps getting rid of it? (and at what rate is rainfall filling it back up again it?)

Yep, unfortunately the forecast is for at least another inch of rain on Friday, with more rain for the next few days:gaah: With regard to roads the councils around here are actually starting to resurface long lengths of roads after several years of complete neglect.

I'm betting that Mr Paterson isn't too pleased with Cameron jumping like a Hero to catch the limelight and to look like a man of decision and action by saying that the Dredgers will start in the rivers rather than Paterson's "Dredgers are only part of the solution and we are looking at viable plans over the next six weeks". If only they'd been dredging the rivers annually as they used to there might not have been so much damage or flooding.

We have not had floods as such up here, but the ground is soused, it just can not absorb anymore water, it just runs off into the drains, but the ground can not take any

Think the plan is to let the pot holes soak up the excess

All this reminds me of Hurricane Katrina and the unbelievably long time before Bush and the Federal Government actually took before they decided to declare a National Emergency.

"In the event of a category 4 or 5 hit, “Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks, perhaps longer. … At least one-half of well-constructed homes will have roof and wall failure. All gabled roofs will fail, leaving those homes severely damaged or destroyed. … Power outages will last for weeks. … Water shortages will make human suffering incredible by modern standards.” [National Weather Service]"

BUSH WATCHES DVD OF THE WEEK’S NEWSCASTS CREATED BY STAFF WHO THOUGHT BUSH “NEEDED TO SEE THE HORRIFIC REPORTS”: “The reality, say several aides who did not wish to be quoted because it might displease the president, did not really sink in until Thursday night. Some White House staffers were watching the evening news and thought the president needed to see the horrific reports coming out of New Orleans. Counselor Bartlett made up a DVD of the newscasts so Bush could see them in their entirety as he flew down to the Gulf Coast the next morning on Air Force One.” [Newsweek]

19th — CHERTOFF TESTIFIES, CLAIMS ADMINISTRATION WAS PREPARED FOR KATRINA: In his testimony, he says, “The idea that this department and this administration and the president were somehow detached from Katrina is simply not correct. We were acutely aware of Katrina and the risk it posed.” Despite Chertoff’s claim, Bush wasn’t made aware of the failed response until four days after the storm hit. [Chertoff, 10/19/05]

STILL NO COMMAND AND CONTROL ESTABLISHED: Terry Ebbert, New Orleans Homeland Security Director: “This is a national emergency. This is a national disgrace. FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control. We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans.” [Fox News]

CHERTOFF CLAIMS THAT NO ONE COULD HAVE PREDICTED KATRINA: Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff argues that “government planners did not predict such a disaster ever could occur.” However, scientists and others had warned of the possibility for years. [CNN, 9/5/05

Does all that strike a chord somewhere........I mean it couldn't happen with our Government in the UK.................could it????:dunno::hate-shocked::heehee:
