My son-in-law has one and seems to be happy with it. I've tried chips that have been cooked in it and they tend to be dryer more like a potato wedge, but tasted fine. :)

Sorry I have no useful input, but I'm going to watch this thread because I too have often wondered about them.

I have no idea how they work, but something to do with a very tiny amount of fat and lots of hot air. They are insanely expensive at the moment probably because they are still not the norm, but like all technology, the price will fall quite rapidly once they get a foothold.

          We had one.
The main problem is that you can't dismantle it to clean.
the oil has to be poured out - and there is no pourer corner. The oil comes out hap-hazardly.
Unless we can find one where the tank is removable to go in the Dishwasher, we are going back to the older type - they are more economical anyway.

I have one (Dry Air Frier)
You can cook anything more or less fat free, though we mainly use it for
            Roast Potatoes and chips
You put say eight raw peeled potatoes into it with 5ml of good oil (peanut or best olive)
twenty minutes later voila crisp roast potatoes

            The same with chips

It does dismantle completely for cleaning, though very little is needed

Down side I am fed up with dry roast tatties and chips though I have lost nine pounds in weight since June (though I put that down to my photography course, walking miles around towns for "That shot" :-)

No they are good, but get boring, when Julie is out I put on the deep fat frier

They do cook anything more or less fat free, meats, veg etc
