Macrame Plant Pot Holders?

Good grief it worked. I took this just a little while ago these are out in a glass fronted shed overwintering and rather neglected. The macrame is really old now but I couldn't find any of the pictures I had of them when they were newly done. Still at least you get to see some of the white string ones with the little coloured beads. The most simpliest type to make and will only take an hour or so to do.

 

Oooh Moyra, they are absolutely gorgeous and I think we should start a revival don't you? Are the supports knitted or crocheted? Any chance that you can write out a pattern please? I mean, a string one shouldn't cost too much and I can get a ball of it from our little Post Office.

Sorry Jenny they are not knitted or crochet that is what macrame is what they are made of. It is more of a kind of knotting than anything. I really haven't got the time now or I would make you one and send it but I am chasing my tail all the time with the things I have to do. If I had the time I would make myself some more too. Maybe come the winter again when things are quiet.

 

I have just watched that video and that really is the simplest of macrame slings you could possible make. But then the ones I make are quite simple too but just take a little longer. Jenny if you have a go at what she has done on the video then you could soon knock up a few to meet your needs.

 

I will try and have a go with some coarse green twine using the video as my guide.

 

It's worth a go Jenny as that is really simple. You could make quite a few in no time at all using her guide on the video. Maybe, I will try and find time to make some more but then that means buying more Geraniums and Fuschias to put in them. Lol.

I bought 20m of green nylon cord from 99p Stores today so I will give it a go in a few days time

20 metres hmm let me see that could make quite a few......even more if you do it by the video. Myself I would prefer to see the macrame twists or flats going down rather than just the odd twine. Ok next time I am out I shall buy some cord of some sort. Thanks for getting me going again Jenny!

 

My pleasure. I love them and if it works out, I can make some for friends - to take instead of wine when invited to their place for dinner. Own made anything is always better than shop stuff isn't it,

Well I did one about half an hour ago and I'm actually surprisingly happy with the way it turned out, unfortunately I don't have any nice hanging plants to show off in it as there still growing

The only downside I can see with these is that there's no way to be able to implement a saucer underneath without making the pot above unstable (as the saucer is wider than the pot)

It's a lovely bold piece that just needs a plant that equals its boldness I think. I understand the water retainer saucer prob. and am thinking that maybe a bigger plant pot holder in which it will sit? The weight of all this has to be remembered so maybe a plastic plant pot and plastic holder? I can see a rummage in our local charity shop coming along.
