How many restaurants have their tables outdoors? Pavement cafe tables, pub beer gardens maybe, but there's not outdoor restaurants round this way.

I assume the mask imposition will mean those visors, that some supermarket staff have been wearing, are now obsolete and they will have to wear masks.

I suppose places are different in different parts of the country. All the restaurants we go to have outside areas.

Difficult to say. Presumably if everyone has to wear a covering, that includes the staff - and if I were in a shop for 8 hours a day, I'd wear a visor rather than a mask. In fact, I may soon be returning to a public-facing job where I will have the option of a mask or visor and I will certainly be opting for the latter.
Also, to be on the safe side I'd still want to wear something if I were staff, since just because they make it mandatory doesn't mean the public will actually abide by it. I keep hearing about people getting on public transport without them. There is only so far you can enforce these things, and while security may be there on the door some people will just remove them once in. I expect in some cases, after a long hard day trying to police a store faced with some of the oiks they have to deal with, some staff will turn a blind eye rather than get into an altercation. Some anti-mask folk - and I'm not talking present company Pete, more certain figures in the media - become extremely aggressive on the issue and that is just online: in real life I can see it coming to blows.

Bearing in mind how this whole debacle is being handled I'm just waiting for them to announce a date when we won't have to wear a mask anymore.:roflol:

Lets face it, up till now its all being run via the calendar, I just cant see why.

There was someone who runs a swimming pool moaning this morning on TV, they said we cant open for another week or so because the government didn't give us enough warning?

Idiots, you just open when you are ready after they say you can, why they all think things have to open up on the date the government say they can is beyond me.

Well, to be honest with you, Scrungee, I don't think the person who put that risk level at lowish hasn't shopped in a long time:dunno: I recently went into a B&M's where there were no distancing signs on the floor, or any control of just how many people there were in the Store. So in the narrow aisles if there was somebody behind you you couldn't get past them as they were so close that you would touch them. Down by the Cash Tills end of the aisles there's was a crowd of people milling around as though there was no separation guidance and actually rubbing shoulders and, of course I couldn't see a mask in sight.:wallbanging:

Just my thinking again but the BBC were making their top news story this morning the fact that Donald Trump was seen wearing a mask.
Ok might be worth a mention but top story, surely not.
They have been crusading for the wearing of masks for some time now.
The media always win in the end.

Probably the same thing that he would say to the Mother-in-Law, Donald Trump, and Doris-at-Number 10. "Take off your masks!" He always gets the same reply though. "I'm not wearing one!" :loll:

To return for a moment to the founding basis of this thread - the invitation to share scientific evidence against masks - is it fair to conclude that those opposed don't have any? Apologies if I've missed something in the 10 or 11 pages we have now filled, but I've gone through them again and it really does seem that there has been no genuinely factual or scientific case put forward to rival those of the vast bulk of medical and expert analysis. There have certainly been insistent refusals, and a few of the predictable pops at the media, the government, and even a dig at the audacity of private enterprise, but so far as I can see no concrete, well thought out rationale that would convince anyone seeking guidance based on compassion for others or objective science rather than simple personal preference. I should say that this thread has proved remarkably better mannered than some of the others I've seen these discussions - but then that is what I'd expect from GC (and pretty much why I chose to launch the debate here rather than on facebook, for example, where the argument I've seen from anti-maskers have been at times nothing short of incoherent, bad-tempered and splenetic.
