Yippee! @fairygirl I've found a supplier for clematis alpina and macropetala which shoud be better suited to the drier conditions here in most of my garden. I've started simple and ordered known quantities - Frances Rivis, Markham's Pink and Ruby to see if I'm right.....

Hi @Obelix-Vendée - that's great. Hope they work well for you.
A lot of the large flowered ones still struggle here, regardless of what I do. It's ironic that the ones which prefer poorer, drier conditions actually manage better, but they have to be in with lots of shrubs so that they don't get overly wet, and/or in very tight raised beds, and then they get no attention from me, and are never watered or fed at any point. The fact that they grow from an existing framework helps, as long as they're given enough time to establish.
The Group 2s and 3s just get eaten as soon as they appear, so it's an ongoing problem. I'm fed up lifting them and potting them up to try and get the into bigger stronger plants. :frown:

The only clematis I have flowers on so far is Little Lemons, and they are so tiny they are not worth photographing. Plenty of buds on 2 Bijous. I planted a new Elsa Spath yesterday, bargain £4 from B and M.

Some really beautiful flowers above :)

Here's another westerplatte which appears to be popular on here. It's petals are like velvet and I'm very pleased with it so far. 20240510_104718.jpg

im really proud of this, we have three clematis, this one pictured is in our back garden and in a lovely sunny spot.

the other one is in the front garden in a similar sunny spot, there is about 5 buds but as yet, none have flowered.

the third one i found in the border at the back, ive put up some trellis and he's now making his way up it. Maybe next year this one will flower.

Very nice Ricky. Do you have the name? it might be 'Carnaby' or 'Nelly Moser', as they both have red/brown anthers.

seems to be flowering better on the shady inside face.

Bonjour :) Does this Clematis develop a deeper colour as the flower ages or is it perhaps growing in full sun? It's absolutely beautiful but I can't find any photos on the 'net that suggest such a pretty, delicate colour.

                          @noisette47
Hi.. mine is in a mostly shady site, sun in the afternoon. Like most of these pale clematis with a pink bar, they are better out of full sun for best colourations.
I love the variation and the showy purple/red anthers.... some pics from last year..

                          DSC07860.JPG

You can see here, the shaded side on the right, holds its colour better.
                          DSC03885.JPG

I have a very soft spot for this particular Clematis..
