Many thanks WOO. I am inclined to hold 'Rosa. My Valentine' in high esteem. Albeit Ena Harkness is still considered by many rosarians as being the all time great red rose. I honestly feel that My Valentine is going to be around for many decades. I don't know about anyone else but, how many rose blooms still look as good after twenyone days, and still retain the good looks and scent?

If I may recap on Chelsea 2019. I am grateful to the RHS that at last, the growers, nurserymen etc are gaining recognition. It really doesn't take much to ask the exhibitor a couple of questions viz. Are these easy to grow etc. Possibly over the years, many keen gardeners have trundled away from the show ground with plants having cost a small fortune. Fools folly. Simply because it was purchased at Chelsea doesen't endow it with super powers.

So here I am amongst the roses. Yes, there are the old stalwarts, Peter Beales Roses, David Austin and a few others. I cast my mind back to my early days of interest in roses. It was estimated that from start to marketing a new rose took twelve years. In an interview with David Ausin Jnr. and his head propagator it now takes about eight years. How times have changed. Gone are the days when the 'Budders' would be out in the fields budding up rootstocks. Even the methods have changed. Bass/Rafia is seldom used now to tie in the bud shield. Now a simple plastic grip does the job.
I found the interview very interesting. OK modern scientific and automated mechanics are now used, these have to be paid for. So, any wonder that the rose bush etc now costs more than the old eighteen pence out of Woolworths. Whatever way we may look at it. The Queen of all garden plants, has to be the rose. IMHO the beautiful Rose is worth every penny.

Truly a great rose. Something I find with roses. The HT's tend to present themselves with singular blooms. This, perhaps may be why they are so favouerd. Turning to the names. Here I admit, I ever hardly indulged in having screen or pin up favs. Perhaps, I may have been a bit in favour of, Mario Lanza due to his great voice. For some reason, I liked Jean Simmonds, why I don't know.

Ingred Bergman, perhaps best remembered for her part in, Cassa blanca, with Bogart. I read recently. Bogey hated the sight of Ingrid. For me. I found Ingrid to be a very good actress, not a glamour puss but one having inbuilt qualities. She always appeared to me to be an individual who possessed very deep emotional feelings and respect for others. If anything. I'd have expected a roes of a delicate flesh pink with very light whitish linings to perhaps have been a better representative bloom.

Cecile Brunner is the name of the last rose pictured. I had to go through the Peter Beales catalogue to find it. It's a dainty rose perfect for buttonholes and it smells divine. Absolutely covered in flowers.

Really fab photos and thanks for sharing. The rose must be the most popular flower in cultivation so. What draws you to the rose. Are you perhaps more attracted to one colour etc. Please share your thoughts.
