My shed is painted dark blue @Busy-Lizzie, so I'm hoping that will make a good background.
I think I remember you commenting on it on GW and that was partly what persuaded me to get it.

I'm rather sad, one half of my glorious 'Penelope' seems to be dying, the bark is split at soil level and there are no new leaves appearing. The other half however seems to be okay so far and has new growth. The rose is quite old, planted about 10 years ago, if not older. It's in a raised wall bed so probably suffered from the heat last year. Going to be quite a job to saw off the very thick main trunk (unless I find it's rotten of course).
I'm probably not going to replace it, as the job of pruning it every year is getting more and more problematic and there is a similar rose nearer to the front of the sleepers.
It was recommended to me by Helen Yemm, one of the Daily Telegraph garden contributors, back in the day.

What a name for a rose! Had to read for O level. Not my favourite George Eliot.

My rose "Happiness" is looking happy, despite the sogginess of the earth. It's a Meilland short climber than can be grown as a large shrub. Mine is in it's 2nd year here.

I've ordered 3 more roses for my French garden. Can't help myself! My new bed around the Amelanchier looks so big and empty. It has 2 shrubs and 2 roses in it so far. A friend has a rose called Jarden de Granville and it was exquisite, big, perfect, scented flowers, very pale pink. Couldn't find it and have now found it on the website of André Eve, a French grower. He had Boscobel and Marie Pavie on special offer so I ordered them too. Too wet to plant anything so I will have to pot them up and wait a bit.

I think @Mrs Hillard has Marie Pavie.

Indeed I do, and I'm pleased to report it'll be flowering very shortly I hope. It's a very early starter and a great rose to have in the garden landscape.

Gosh, that's early. My roses in SW France where it's warmer are nowhere near flowering yet. They are getting nice and bushy though, but a lot are quite new plants.

I’ve got a canary bird rose which is covered in buds. A couple have opened out already.
I recall when I first got it, it flowered early May, but the last 4 years or so, it has gradually flowered earlier. I’m assuming climate change is probably responsible.

That's beautiful @Mrs Hillard, and such a welcome sight right now.

I saw yesterday that I have a bud on my Etoile du Hollande which I'm anxiously watching from the kitchen window in case the squirrel gets there first!

My 3 roses from André Eve arrived today. Jardin de Granville, Marie Pavie and Boscobel. Boscobel was 15€, David Austin sells it bare root for £27. I have planted them in my new bed, dug in lots of compost. That makes 5 roses in that bed, I'd already planted Blush Noisette and Gentle Hermione. Also planted fuchsia Delta Sarah. I have some perennials waiting to plant in it and there is an amelanchier, a Vitex Agnus Castus and a spirea Snow Mound, so it will be a mixed bed with a bit of shade from the nearby Indian Bean Tree.
