    Jiffy, love it:snork:

A bloke had stopped to take a phonecall in his car today, just stopped dead on a 60mph road:doh:

I think the government should make a list of the laws people deliberately break, phone use, speeding, littering, dog mess etc. and say people have a choice, either obey these laws or you are going to be paying the national debt back. £10,000 fine for first offence, doubling for subsequent offences.

If you don't want to help pay the debt back, don't break the law.

It is an on-the-spot fine here if caught, and I think it is €100. You can either pay by cash or credit card (maybe cheque but not sure) as the Police carry these nifty machines around and you get an immediate A5 printout receipt (no cash in the pocket skulduggery). I have to answer t'other half's phone if it rings while we are driving ... I don't use a mobile phone, only have one for emergencies.

We know about these nifty machines because t'other half was involved in an accident a year and a half ago wherein three vehicles were involved and he was number three and charged with 'inattentive driving'.

He was obviously a very law abiding person, as the law says you are not allowed to use a mobile phone whilst driving.

Anyone who ran into the back of him would obviously be at fault, for driving too close to the vehicle in front.;)

I don't send many texts either, usually it's just "OK". But as you say C1 the younger generation have adapted. My daughter can text with one hand without looking at her phone and also be doing something else at the same time, it's like second nature.

Daft thing was, when I overtook him he pulled away whilst still on the phone:doh:

I get folk parking in my garden, I usually open the front door & look at them till they pull away, but I don't if they've pulled in to take a phonecall, at least they're off the road.

Although he wasn't on a mobile, that is exactly what t'other half was guilty of ... although he says he couldn't see around vehicle number two which was a 4x4 ... I said well it could have been a bus so you should pay attention! :oopss: Car number one had stopped suddenly for a pedestrian in a crossing ... t'other half seems not to 'notice' pedestrian crossings and often waves at the person who is waiting to cross because he didn't see them until he is over the crossing! :hate-shocked:

He then thought the Clio was driveable home but we only hobbled to the next town from where we had to call the recovery service to take us home and the car to our mechanic (free on your insurance here) where the car was scrapped. So, a fine plus purchase another vehicle. :rolleyespink:

He also got caught by a speed camera and the fine arrived in the post €120, pay on line or contest but if you contest it may cost you €300 so he paid on line, as did our friend who got caught at the same spot!

Its just been on the news, a woman was driving at around 70mph sending and receiving texts, and wiped out some poor lad who'd got out of his broken down car. Killed him dead. She's been sentenced to a whopping 3 years in jail and got a 6 year driving ban. That's for taking someone's life.
