    Yup, that is a rooting agent, although there is also some indolebutyric acid present in Willow (which is the one in hormone powder rooting I think)

    Presumably the name "salicylic acid" was formed from Salix?

      Yes, that's where they got the name.

      The salicylic acid is derived from the bark of the willow and used quite a bit in skin care products.

      Commercial aspirin is Acetylsalicylic Acid. Also originating from the willow. In days of yore (actually, days of mine :heehee: ) the herbalists/witchdoctors used the extract from the bark of the willow. Just as many of the 'medicines' we use now are derived from the plants in our garden or growing wild.
