Winter 2014-15 seemed long. Mostly because of the wait for the planting season! When that finally arrived, it started with the planting of three quince bushes. They were to (hopefully!) eventually hide the compost from the rest of the fruit garden.

    IMG_3321.JPG

Then, a small mixed bed was planted near the Hydrangea walk...

    IMG_3391.JPG

The Rowans were underplanted with Salvia 'Blauhugel'...

Climbing roses "Flammentanz" on each side of the Lych Gate...

    IMG_3312.JPG

A row of Japanese Holley was planted near to the Barbeque area...

    IMG_3313.JPG

In the centre of the rose garden, a Magnolia and four Baltic Quince...

    IMG_3355.JPG

Finally, the raised bed made the previous year got strawberries and rhubarb...

That gets me up to date with everything. So far this year, we have had low temperatures so as I type, there is not much colour in the garden. I'll continue this thread when things come into bloom to show the most recent photos.

If ever the weather here gets better, I should be able to take some current photos for you all. In the meantime, here is the latest one I have, taken looking in from the back gate. Hope you like it!

Time for an update. I decided that I would like to improve this part of the garden... IMG_3652.JPG

..and yes, I know the rose borders need weeding! Some paving was laid, a bench added, and two Dappled Willows....

          DSCN2209.JPG

Even if it is an improvement, I'm not sure its everyones cup of tea. I think it looks better when viewed from a distance...

Finally, for this post, a couple of rose photos that I have been asked to post.

The 2016 planting season has begun in a modest way.

Two new roses "Remembrance" have arrived, and they were planted by the side of some relocated Japanese Holly. Not much to see as regards the roses as yet, but here's a photo anyway...

Garden looks lovely. Can I ask, is the yellowish (painted/stained?) table and chairs a design that is common there? Is it your handywork? Did you work from a commercial design? I've not seen a piece like that before and like it very much, how it is designed and put together.

The table is one that I designed and built myself. I wanted one that was more comfortable and would seat more people than the traditional picnic benches that are commonly available. They are easy enough to make, if a bit time consuming.

If you like, I can check if I have photos of it under construction, and add them to the project thread I started.

                    "Remembrance" is a lovely rose.
Are they for beauty or significance?
Your garden really is wonderful and a lot of hard work has gone into it.

Just one thing  does Sweden not have weeds? :dunno:

Look closely, there are plenty weeds!

As regards the roses, I just liked the colour the first time I saw them.

Tuesday saw the addition of short Hornbeam hedges. I did take photos, but as these do not have leaves on yet, they are very difficult to see against everything else in there. Plans with these are to keep most of them around the 1 metre mark, and either pleach them, or have a number of sentinels.
