So sorry Loli - I'm just like you, I get far too attached to animals. But then, there's not much point in having them unless you love them. I remember once someone scoffing at me because I said that animals know when they are loved ... but I still believe that's true. I'm sure you gave her a lovely life, and that's what counts.

Bit of a coincidence .... One of our chooks is called Maisie, and she is very unwell at present, she has gone painfully thin, though she is as bright as a button and eats/drinks well, but she just sits there, we think it could be that she is egg bound, but do not know the best way to treat her, and don't want to be told that she needs to be put to sleep as she is only a young bird.

Yes, so do we .... I've been cleaning her vent area the last few days and 'massaging' it (which feels wrong) as it is supposed to help them by stimulating the muscles to help expel an egg if she is egg bound .....

Is it Cod liver oil she needs, just a spoonful. Mix it in with her meal. Somewhere way back in my childhood when we used to keep Chooks it rings a bell. Give the vet a ring Nigel and see if I am right. :)

I don't know anything about chickens but I have kept caged birds and they usually only get egg bound if the egg is soft shelled and they can't expel it. Has she been eating enough calcium? We haven't had much sunshine and this helps them to absorb the calcium. So hope she gets better. Also warmth helps.
SO sorry to hear about Maysie Loli!! I know only too well how attached you get to any pet which you care for.
