Thanks goodness it survived. It took months back then.
Wooden planter is ordered, once it gets warmer, I will start doing it before I feel worse again in two weeks time.

@Plantminded I replanted the tree fern, and tried to saw the 2 dead trunks out until I realised that they look very well alive and are connected with the living trunk. How foolish of me not to turn it first and to check more closely. I'm sure I have now killed my little survivor.

      What it looks like now.

That looks fine @simone_in_wiltshire, you've done well to keep those green fronds throughout winter. I doubt that you have killed it :).

@Plantminded I tend to buy a new one with the RHS. They have different sizes. Because our garden is so windy, I can only have a small one like that little one by the fence.

I wish I had room for another one @simone_in_wiltshire :). Be aware that the RHS plant website is run by Crocus who supply the plants. Sometimes the prices vary between the two sites for the same plants so check both before purchasing :). Crocus also supply plants for online Waitrose and Primrose, all with similar looking websites and stock.

@Plantminded I had given the tree fern a new wooden box and completely new ericaceous soil. Over the weekend, I bought tree fern fertiliser. When would you apply the fertiliser the first time?

I am now feeding mine weekly @simone_in_wiltshire in Wiltshire, using diluted seaweed feed applied to the crown and trunk. The fertiliser you have bought should state the amount to use. Is yours the Vitax feed for tree ferns and palms?

It's Vitax (I believe to remember, small green plastic bottle for £6.00) explicit for tree ferns and palms. I thought because I have new soil, I might overfeed it.

Provided your fern has a good established root system, I wouldn't be worried about that @simone_in_wiltshire. I've also added blood, fish and bone to the soil around mine.

@Plantminded Thanks for your advise. Will apply the feed soon. I just watered it when replanting.
