My wife never listens to me

Bill and Bob were chatting in the pub. Bill was upset because he felt his wife never listens to him:

Bill: My wife never listens to me anymore.
Bob: Have you considered she might be getting hard of hearing and may simply not hear you half the time?
Bill: Hmm, possible but I don't think so. She talks a lot on the phone and doesn't seem to have any trouble.
Bob: Go home, and from the front door, ask what's for tea. Then if she doesn't answer move a bit closer and ask again. Keep doing this and see how close you have to be before she hears you.

Bill went home and decided to try his friend's advice. He arrived in the front door and asked "What's for tea love?". No answer. He took a few paces closer to her, then again asked "what's for tea love?". Still no response. Eventually he was stood right behind her in the kitchen and asked "What's for tea love?".

Bill's wife, now seeming quite annoyed, turned round and screamed at him: "For the 20th time, EGG AND CHIPS! How many times do I need to say it?!'.

T'other half can't hear me when I talk to him ... but strangely hears what I whisper to the cats ...
