Hey its looking good , if you can ? once its all dug over, is to give it a water with a seaweed feed this will give the soil a massive kickstart with all the good bacteria as its been under the slabs for years , soil look great to me and as Kristen has said as long as the stones are not near the top in the base of the trench will do the soil good.

Are you going to have a flower/shrub border around the edge if yes I would dig deeper , but thats me all over but it makes it so much easier later on when puttiong in a new plant to dig the hole to put the plants in , oh and also put manure etc in the bottom.

    Hi Spruce
Thanks for advice, as the garden size is small for the kids, I'll be lawning the whole area, with planting in baskets. Where can I get the seaweed feed?

you dont have to get from here but it gives you a idea of how much they cost and which one to get , you water most of them down anyway so a small bottle goes along way , so are you turfing ? sounds easier with having kids , look forward to see how you are getting on :ccheers:

        Hi everyone

My aim is to lawn the area in the next couple of weeks.
I've got the double digging over and done with. Here are some photos of the area.

What's the next stage o f work? Soil tends to sink a tad when walking on it. Thanks for looking.

Hey looking good nearly all done .....

before you do anything else pick up as many stones as you can , once that's complete you need to put a pair of shoes on and shuffle around the garden to help firm the soil I was trying to find a Utube clip to show you , then use a rake to smooth it out and get it nice and level , have you used any seaweed feed yet ? and I think you are turfing it would be quicker than seed especially as you have children.

Looking at the photos I would say no , once you start raking and leveling off I am sure it would look fine , you are timing it well.

the fish blood and bone may burn the roots once you lay the lawn , and I dont think a good fertilizer for grass , plus with the sea weed feed you can use after you lay it as well , buts thats my choice I just thought because the slabs have been down so long it would give the soil a good boost as it will be very stale and very little life , I do us FBB when planting shrubs etc , lets see what the others may come up with ......

                  Hi

After another look at the soil, I've got a concrete patch a foot wide all the way across the back wall, the soil that covers this is only about 20 mm, and then an incline along the left fencing, I will try levelling of with the rake but if I can't level off and need more soil, what do I need to buy?

                  Hi

I would leave the path bare and also somewhere to put the pots on , the grass will struggle to grow.

Also thats why most have a small border as it makes it easier to cut the lawn

Does the garden naturally slope ?
