I'm off on a trip to Germany shortly and need to get some Euro. I have used to PO in the past which always seemed reasonably good. Any recommendations for somewhere better?

There's not really a great deal to choose between most of them. Do a search on the net and see. If you're doing it on the net then remember that although they'll have better rates they'll charge for delivery and for use of a card to pay for it.

The difference is rarely more than 1% so that would be £5 on £500. I'd be inclined to do whatever is more convenient to you.

I prefer to get mine when I go shopping. I've found Thomas Cook the best place for negotiating a better deal :blue thumb: but it takes a bit of bargaining.

They, like a lot of places that sell on the High St, give a better rate on the net than on the High St. I can usually negotiate to get their internet rates when buying in the shop. I pay cash so there's no charges.

Thanks @shiney I need a fair dose of cash as where we are staying doesn't take cards. Still not exactly high financial transactions so slight differences in rates are probably only going to make the difference of the equivalent of a glass of Riesling!

The exchange rate has been rising this week (not a lot) so things are a bit better than they were. Although the exchange rate has gone up to almost 1.19 to the pound (risen by about 5 cents in a week) you can only expect to get somewhere close to 1.16 as that's where they make their profit.

I don't know what you call a fair dose (don't know how long you're going for) but there sometimes is money laundering investigations if you try to change over £2,500.

:wow: didn't know that @shiney.Don't need that much but always good to know these things. A few years ago I did take about that much to Egypt for completely legit reasons I may add:). Thank the lord I wasn't dragged off to be interrogated! I've ordered my Euros and yup you got it spot on I got 1.16 exchange. Things are going to be a bit more expensive than my visit to Poland last year. I think I got in the region of 1.40. Really isn't that big a deal unless you are say buying a property then the low £ would be painful.

Most places that change money would just refuse to change that much. :noidea:

Silu , I always find pre order on the net , at Thomas cooke or the PO gives the best rate. As shiney said things are improving a smidgeon , so leave it as late as you dare.

Where did you get 1.16 ? Thomas C is 1.153 at the moment . That extra 0.007 of a Euro cent may get me a small beer in a month :snork:

Try checking the rate for larger amounts of money. :blue thumb:

I used The Currency Club (used before and their service was good). No doubt the rate will go through the roof between now and when we travel but in this day and age of volatility it could just as easily fall like a stone so decided to just order now and be damned:).

Mrs H does not trust me with large amounts of money
@silu , the Currency Club is great ! I can get €1.16 which gives me another€4.5 over Thomas Cook , which equals 1.84 beers! :Wino:That's a win in my book :snork:
