If passing out Christmas cards becomes the ideal neighbour, then I dont stand a chance.
I hate Christmas, even got a jar of humbugs from a mate one year.

Now if you need a push to start your car one cold morning or need a help out with the bins I'm ready, just dont expect me to sit down writing on cards at the most depressing time of the year.

We moved in here a year past in October, and our neighbours were on holiday for a month just as we moved in, so by Christmas we had barely seen them let alone talked to them; it really made our day when we got a card from them at Christmas though, made us feel welcome in the street if that makes sense.

By late spring, I was foisting tomato plants over the fence to them, and then during summer it was a steady stream of cucumbers when we were over run - toward the end of the season, we were gifted a lovely bag of onions, courgettes and cabbages from their dads allotment.

We've got an older gent across the road who we hadn't met until he parked his car outside our door very early one Saturday morning, and his passenger door was lying open when I looked out - a quick pop across the road to let him know and he was chattering away, and he now always waves in the mornings if he is coming back with his paper when I'm heading out to work.

Next door on the other side are very quiet, but we take parcels for each other - lovely couple they are and the only time we hear them is when there is football on and they are cheering.

And lastly, we have a family on a diagonal, again they always wave or say hello and we will take parcels for each other.

This may sound perfectly normal to most of you, but around here it is quite unusual - we used to live less than a mile from here, and in the whole time we were there we only really got to know the neighbours on one side - think its a London thing.
