It's not just neighbours breaking the rules but shops as well. Our local shops are fine but I do go into town to Tesco for other shopping. I go at 6 a.m. to avoid crowds and it's a pleasure to shop there but recently some of the staff haven't been wearing masks (against the law unless exempt). I did a mini survey of the staff who were wearing masks and they were unhappy about those not wearing them. Most of them, not all, were young females. A couple of older members of staff said that all these younger ones had produced printed exemption notices (you can get them off the internet) but the staff reckoned the girls just didn't want to mess up their makeup.

No store manager to talk to at that time of the morning so I wrote to HO. First response was the usual blurb about trying to keep people safe but some people are exempt. I replied saying I seriously doubted that such a high percentage of staff were all exempt and asked whether store managers ask for medical proof. I pointed out that if staff are off sick they are asked for proof so the same thing applies about a Covid medical exemption.

I also pointed out that the local Environmental Health had been patrolling the car park asking people to wear masks (staff had told me) and I would ask them to do spot checks on staff as well.

They replied that they would talk to the store manager. These emails covered some days and the second time I went to the store the problem was still there but when I went yesterday they were all wearing masks. :blue thumb:

I wrote to HO thanking them and they said they shall let other store managers know - but don't know whether they'll bother.

If I see the problem come back I shall contact EH - I have the direct line number for the senior officer. :)

The only neighbours I've seen breaking the rules are the rabbits! :roflol:

Plenty of my neighbours breaking the rules here too, some carrying on as though nothing has happened with visitors coming and going and their student children popping home from Uni and back again last week. They are nice folk but living in cloud cuckoo land.

The vast majority are being good though, the few vulnerable neighbours have more or less boarded themselves indoors and never venture outside, I've been giving them some of my excess produce - leaving it at the bottom of their drives. Plus I notice some are now taking exercise, jogging and walking. There are a couple of real oldies in our road and some neighbours are taking their dogs for walks, so the good outweigh the bad.

That can be within the rules, but just for one student child by themselves in self contained (not sharing cooking and washing facilities) accommodation at uni (preferably private and not halls which may be subject to any additional uni rules), plus they are in a support bubble with their parents.

That's the situation our daughter is in, plus she also has her own house back this way.

Here in the Highlands we've been classed as Tier 1 for some while. The Tier 1 regulation is for no more than six people gathering at home or in the garden.

It's only legal for 15 to meet outdoors in Scotland in Level 0 areas, but .....

                "Level 0
No local authority has been assigned this level. Scotland's councils have been told by the government that "it would not be safe to move any area straight to the lowest level". At Level 0, hospitality would operate "almost normally" - subject to rules on physical distancing, limits on numbers and other rules, such as table service."

Here's something that surprised me. The view from my home office window is on assisted living bungalows for the elderly. (On that note, hats off to our council, the houses are looked after brilliantly, medicine deliveries and home help come daily and even the bin men go to the house to pull the bins themselves. Good stuff! :dbgrtmb:)

I was watching the medicine delivery man and the window cleaner having a jolly doorway chat with the elderly lady who lives there. No masks, and social distancing at the level where the window cleaner was actually patting the lady's arm.

Nice and friendly, but have they all missed the guidance of social distancing in general and lockdown in particular? It's not safe to be patting an old lady's arm and have a long chat of three when you are in patting distance.

Mixed feelings... it's so lovely to see this warmth and friendliness but at the same time, it's maddening to know the consequences of disregarding the rules of keeping the virus level manageable.

Got some new residents moving into a nearby street. They had contractors 'deep cleaning' the house for several days to make it safe before moving in yesterday.

Today they had a constant stream of visitors to their new home.

Sorry for the confusion I'll rephrase. I'm in level 3 in Scotland and we haven't been able to meet indoors since September or travel outwith the region.

As I understand it the police will only break up gatherings of 15 people or now will fine those that travel outwith their area.

So if a neighbour has a small gathering whilst breaking the rules I'm not so sure it's breaking the law. To my mind it should be though.

Irritating though for all us who have stuck to the rules and would like to go down a level and stay safe.
