It's good to know that it's been difficult, weather-wise, if you know what I mean. I have a sprinkler and it's too big, this little bit of grass is small. Is there a sprinkler for tiny gardens?

I'm about to enter phase 2 of the planting I planned. Bulbs for next year and some extra plants to go in the spaces. I won't add more than that but I'm about to order some good stuff this morning to be planted next weekend. The whole garden is looking great, grass completely rescued - tho there are still little patches that aren't growing that well at the top corners! 20250919_142552.jpg 20250919_142552.jpg

That link is interesting but is for med-to-large gardens and mine is small, if I buy that awesome looking thingy it's going to miss a lot of the lawn, that's the thing. I almost need a mini sprinkler, do those exist? The tap is the tap, even just turning it once creates a powerful jet, not much I can do about it. I need a tiny little sprinkler somehow...

That all sounds good news. When I moved to my current house there was a large patch of grass. I've dug beds and planted flowers and hung up bird feeders and now I have lots of birds, and butterflies too.

Grass looks as though it could do with a light mow.

Keep an eye out for the suckers, baby plants, coming up in your lawn from next doors Sumach. Pretty fronded leaves. Gorgeous autumn colour in the leaves. It is a thug and spreads very quickly. My croquet club has just had to pay a lot of money for someone to grub out a large area taken over by a single plant, planted by a long gone member who planted it to be a hedge.

We let the grass grow bc we heavily seeded it and it needed time. Gardener has been today actually, to plant the second set (2x fuchsia, 2x euphorbia, 1x choisya, 1x clematis, 1 winter jasmine, 1x hellebore) and the bulbs (tulip, crocus, allium). Exciting! Will post pix.

I adore that tree! Those colours are amazing. So far it's not doing anything, but will keep an eye on it, thank you.

b3334510-5d4d-42d3-afc0-34fc2e3d4d0e.jpeg Second planting!!!! Moved the bird feeder a foot up into a troublesome corner where nothing seems to grow well. And several new additions plus all the bulbs are in. I think that's the end of the planting, give or take a rose bush I might want to add. The transformation from a patch of weeds into this is remarkable. 3ed2a0f7-714c-4e74-bad3-ca93d80b1de5.jpeg 092b5278-e6af-4666-ac0f-b666c1767f5c.jpeg 092b5278-e6af-4666-ac0f-b666c1767f5c.jpeg d013c1c7-bcf6-464c-8054-5217e76d7e92.jpeg

Well done, it will get even better when it all grows.

Looking good @LiizT. The Sumachs are lovely trees in the right place and the colour is woderful as you say. They can be a nuisance tho - their suckers travel and are very determined.- made far worse if the original tree is pruned so keep an eye out in the future :)

So far all I'm getting is leaves - the tree itself is at the back of the garden of a housing estate and I don't imagine is being looked after at all.

So here we are, the garden has its finishing touch. Cyclamen and bulbs. That colour is extraordinary! Grass doesn't look bad, but you can't do much with it as winter approaches, I know. Am so thrilled with how it's come out, transformed completely from a patch of weedy nothing into this thing that makes me happy every day. Hurrah! 20251015_122620.jpg 20251015_122627.jpg 20251015_122631.jpg

I feel like I'm really getting the understanding now of the garden as a living, breathing thing that I am forming a relationship with. It's wonderful. Those new cyclamen are giving me life!

I need some help, it's not about my garden. I've tried posting this in a fungi group and the rules were so draconian it got deleted (no idea why!) and then I got an abusive message from one of the mods! All VERY bizarre. I didn't think mushroom people would be rude, lol. Does anyone know what on earth these are? They're in my cousin's garden, there are 2 of them, and they are huuuuuge! I'm a bit worried bc there are kids and a cat living in proximity and they're getting bigger by day. It's like a horror movie, haha. Does anyone know what on earth they are? I'd say the diameter of each is about 20 inches. And last week they were half the size. Are we being invaded by aliens? ;-p

I get clumps like that this time of year. Couldn't tell you what they're called though. They will go through their lifecycle pretty quickly and disappear again (what you are seeing is just the fruit of a huge organism underground). Cats won't be interested in them, and kids generally aren't that keen on eating mushrooms.
