    Hi all,

were new here and trying to sort something out in our back garden. The back garden has a slope from top to bottom. Previous people in the house have had the slope dug back to make a flat lawn area which is much better but has left the slope steeper. When we first moved in it had lots of moss - i treated it and got rid of the moss and weeds but the grass doesnt grow on it, ive put down grass seeds, lawn & feed & patch magic but nothing seems to work so now im wondering what to do with it?

Thinking a rockery? or decking? or any other suggestions that may look nice or make the grass grow as i dont think it'd look bad if the grass grew and it was healthy.

Pics to help you understand the garden:

then at the top of the bank theres:

the giant cage thing is actually a cat run as jodies a bit obsessed with our cat.....but keeps him as a house cat

    Thanks
    Lee

At the top of the hill, plant 2 hardy palm trees (1 on either side of the steps) .... not sure in what area you are, but consider the hardy Trachycarpus fortunei

then, in the middle of the 2 palms (middle of the steps, near the far shrub, place an antique cast iron/wrought iron garden bench .... this will be a 'focal point'

then make different levels using brickwork (or even railway sleepers, and you will have several beds at different levels/heights, where you can plant loads of plants .... make sure you plant half of the plants as evergreen so that there is always foilage during the colder months .... whatever you do on the one side, replicate it on the other ... here is an example of the bed levels:

you could also incorporate a water feature right at the top between the 2 palms ...similar to one of these but nicer and a bit larger:

you could make it really nice ... all depends on what you are willing to spend

    (and dump the garden gnomes)
    :)

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

It's got great potential. Which way is it facing? I'm guessing the grass on the slope doesn't get much sun. I like the idea of terracing the slope either side of the main steps (using railway sleepers as *dim* suggests is a cheap way to go). 3 or 4 terraces would allow for some ground cover plants to spill over.
