A small bottle of concentrated roundup goes a long way. Get yourself a hand pump pressure spray and you will get the whole lot done in no time. Don't cut anything back, you want the poison to absorb into the leaves and kill the roots.

As for the conifers I removed about 30 last year. Use the chainsaw to cut the branches off first and leave the trunk. If they are small enough you will be able to get them out by digging and cutting through the roots then use the trunk to help pull it out. If they're big then i would cut back close to the ground and then get some quotes from some tree surgeons to come and remove them. It shouldn't be very expensive and they have huge professional stump grinder that will cut through them in seconds. Far better than the ones you can hire. You may want to get them to just quote for the whole lot as it may not be as expensive as you think. They'll stick the trees through a wood chipper and take the lot away or leave it for a path or mulch.

Good morning @Verdun @Gail_68 I left some large stumps and then built my woodland area around them, but in the end its just a personal preference ,its a good thing that our perception of stumps and all gardening is different, that way we can learn off of each other;)

Are the round up all singing all dancing pump spray devices worth the price or is it better to mix it up myself?

I’ll put some requests for quotes out there. Someone told me about bark.com so we’ll see what they come up with.

Hello Woo, as Verdun knows we've planted 4 6ft pink pampas grasses around ours in the front garden so when they grow...they should over take it :)

I would buy a cheap garden pressure sprayer and mix it up yourself. A litre of concentrated glyphosphate will last you a few years or more. The pre mixed one will last 10 minutes

Tetters your stumps look like serious stumps. Mine are just annoying, badly placed conifers that take up soo much space that could be much lighter and open. The damn things were blocking out so much sunlight it was unreal!

Mike 77. thanks I’ll have a look round for the concentrate. Pump spray is now on route.

Oh thanks, I needed a bit of buttering up today.... :sick0026:
Don`t forget you can use Epsom Salts to get rid of tree stumps and difficult roots. You just need to drill holes in them, fill up with salts (with a scattering around the perimeter) cover up with polythene and secure. Some ugly ones, including brambles that I treated here in the winter (January I think it was) have just about disintegrated now. Any left over residue will only serve to feed any surrounding plants.

True Verdun only reason the top half of my garden was used as a dump the space was not really usable with the stumps in before and after pics i had two stumps in each corner,

If you have a few to get out personally i would hire a small mini digger it will save lots of back breaking work.
