Hopefully they'll all be sheltering in vegetation until the warmer weather arrives. Frogs have survived over millions of years and a ":snork: little thing" like the Winter hanging on won't kill them off.

Gloom, gloom, gloom! :nonofinger: ARMANDII seems to be the only one, apart from me, that is taking it in his stride.

So, things are behind their normal schedule because of the weather :dunno: but they'll pick up fairly quickly later on. Then we'll just have to rush to get everything done. Mother Nature seems to adjust to things much better than us :).

In the meantime, make the most of the nice days and prepare for a late spring.

I'm getting worried about hedgehogs as they can't hibernate indefinitely.

Wouldn't mind really, except for a few things...

Food prices are going to be very steep for British produce this year (soft fruit, summer roots etc), perhaps there won't be any growth at all until true summer.

My garden is on its last legs and I can't afford to keep replacing it.. But I'm not willing to change the style of gardening.

Its just the worst time this could happen but obviously there's nothing we can do!

Nature has a amazing way of catching up, I should imagine that one week everything bare and within a week it will be green , at least the blossom ie apple trees wont be caught out like last year with late frost well I hope so... as the weather last year this time everything was blooming.

I to have done tropical planting as such, listening to the advice how much warmer its going to be , but as two years ago we where all caught out and paid the price of loosing so many plants I know understand the plants that have been with us for years and the good old varieties thats why they are.

Imagine having a gardening business they must be having a tough time with heating etc and lack of customers visiting

I have three daffs in bloom today, but still nothing on the camellia in the back garden (although, I am not convinced that it was in the healthiest state anyway. The camellia in the front garden which is a bit more sheltered is blooming, but the blooms are falling off quite rapidly after opening.

The thing that is frustrating me is the lack of light for seedlings - I have got a few things going in the house for the sake of warmth, but all they are doing is leaning toward the windows, and none more than just cotyledon leaves at the moment; my marigolds have all sprouted well, and then basically stopped.

                  More doom & gloom:

                  http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/mar/28/how-government-end-long-winter

Plus economists are now predicting a triple dip recession due to the cold weather, campsites are suffering from masses of cancellations, etc, etc. At the garden centre I was in a few days ago they confirmed trading was abysmal, but hoped trade would pick up over Easter. I hope there's not another failure of the apple harvest this year and the trees delay bud burst/blossom until there's some bees about - at the moment they still look OK for grafting.

The fields round here were sodden last Autumn and farmers were lucky to get some ploughed, let alone sow winter wheat. Some are still covered in frozen, unploughed stubble and as some weather forecasters are predicting a change from very cold/dry to colder than average/above average rainfall it doesn't look good. I'm thinking about getting about 18 months supply of straw for our hens stashed away.

Thanks for all that Scrungee. I was thinking about being good and not having an Easter Egg this year but you've changed my mind. AND I'm sending Mr Jenny down the fish and chip shop to bring back some goodies tonight,
                    Happy Easter anyway,

The weather here is slowly improving, still cold and way below what it should be, but its dry and when the sun does come out there is some warmth :) .

However I've just seen a screen shot of the computer model that the Met Office uses and its saying it will remain solidly cold up until next weekend at least and most likely well in to April . At least its not just us, the whole of Europe was blue on the map, Spain and southern France included, all enduring below average temperatures for the time of year apparently...
