My cousin had a farm in the New Forest and we used to go there every year as a child. I remember one trip, I was 6 or 7, where he took me to a slaughterhouse. My parents were a bit off but they thought it was a good idea for me to understand where food came from, so let me go. We took a few of the neighbours pigs and I still remember it vividly to this day. I really think everyone should go because I don't think it's right that you eat meat if you aren't prepared to see how it's produced. I get that most could never kill an animal but the problem is people just tuck in without considering where it has come from or how it's been produced.

I agree most people wouldn't be able to kill their own food.
We would all be living on veg.

          Wouldn't bother me.
Most people couldn't grow sufficient veg for themselves and their families and they would rapidly end up scavenging/foraging.

When I was working in South Africa, over 60 years ago, lots of restaurants had Monkey Gland Steak on the menu :yikes: - but Monkey Gland was just the name of a sauce made with tomatoes, onion, garlic and spices. :phew:
