    Sorry Dai,

    They made me speak welsh when I worked in the slate quarry.Tea breaks were a bit of a mystery to me. Never learned to spell in welsh though.

    Fantastic! Obviously I just need a spell in a slate quarry and I'll be fluent. How did you learn 'mochyn daear'? Did you see lots of badgers in the slate quarry? :D

    No, strangely enough, I learnt that from a welsh girl that was working in Turkey with.

    Turkish for badger is porsuk.

    A badger ! I'm a country girl (read bumpkin) and I've never seen a real, live, badger. Honest !

    That's probably because you are a country girl, Alice. The best place I ever found to watch badgers was on a modern housing estate in Darkest Croydon. Some friends used to put food outside and then invite everyone round to watch a large family of badgers working their way through it. Eventually it got to the stage where the badgers would be waiting, noses pressed to the French windows, for supper to be served. They didn't do much for the state of the garden, however.

    We got one that does the rounds of everyones dustbins about 8 o clock in the winter. I set a humane rat trap one night, bit later heard an almighty crash, mr badger had thrown the trap about 6 feet to get the bait out.

    Slovenian for badger is jasbek
