My raised beds have rotted and need replacement. Rather than go through the rigmarole again in a few years I want to look at alternative ideas.

Has anyone tried plastic, composite or other types of boarding?

Never used plastic. I usually use scaffold boards and have never had any issues. The ones in my new house I inherited are made from 6 x 1 gravel boards, some have seen better days, so I will start to replace them all this Autumn.

What are yours made of and how old are they?

Lord knows what they're made of. They're about 6 years old and 8" dia wooden poles

I feel your pain. My raised beds have 4x4 treated wood however after 20 years they are rotting, shifting so that they are uneven and will need replacing. That product looks interesting. Never thought of that. We have a product here called trex. Horribly expensive but probably worth considering. And made from plastics too.

Those plastic planks look like they will last forever, but you'll need a second mortgage to buy them!

I am such a dolt! There I am spending hours looking for a solution and right next to where this is happening is where I'm tearing up a deck!

Instead of breaking and burning it I'll use it to make the beds. Should give at least a years service

Here we use a Dutch product called Ecolat. Its made from recycled plastic. As far as I understand things, it was originally designed for edging ponds curved borders, things like that, but works very nicely for raised beds.

Definitely worth looking at once the deck boards wear out in a year or two.

Started taking up the deck yesterday and I am aching head to toe today!
