I had another go on the brick stove the other day when it was a bit windy and actually managed a good boil.
But it needs attention all the time to do that.
I'll probably stick with gas

Like a phoenix out of the ashes I'm resurrecting this thread.

Today I moved on, the brick stove has gone, (the bricks were cracked anyway);), the supermarket trolley is ok for burning rubbish, but today I snapped up a bargain.

For 30 quid I got this, not sure what I'm going to do with it yet as it says you can cook 8 burgers at once, firstly, there is only one of me, and secondly, I dont like burgers.

But I dont give up that easy, so summer madness is here again, I get the feeling its going to be hotting up soon.

Oh, by the way, you wouldn't believe the instruction booklet that came with it.
Apparently, its a fire hazard, there is a risk of burning and accidents, risk of explosion, risk of poisoning, dangerous to children, and some parts have sharp edges.

Not sure I want to go near it now, it looked pretty harmless in the box.;)

If OH's culinary adventures are anything to go by, I think you'll find that your alcohol consumption increases by 500% and the cooking times get slower and slower...I wouldn't have believed that you can spin out cooking a steak to last 4 hours..:roflol:

Oh and don't forget the food safety hygiene! It goes like this..."A quick brush-over the disgusting, fat-caked, residue-coated grill once it's lit is quite sufficient. Heat kills microbes ...":eeew: After the bacteria that I've been subjected to over the years, Covid's got no chance :roflol:

Good buy Pete and nice little cooking nook. We just have a little Hibachi now as we rarely grill out.

I used to have one of those. Made by Weber- they are considered the masters of making barbecues over her. The diameter was about 24" so probably the same size. Charcoal grilling does add a distinctive taste and I've always liked it. And the ashes are good for the garden. Please wait until they cool down before distributing though

Forgot to mention that I used to always put the charcoal on one side only. Searing the food and adding the "grill" stripes over the charcoal, then pushing the grate so that the food was over empty space, put the lid on with the vents open about 1/3. And bake until the middle of the food was done to the "done" level that I like. I like medium rare :) You can do pork chops, chicken, burgers, sausages, steaks and lots of other things in one of those.

One stormy afternoon, the wind took the whole unit and threw it off the deck and knocked it out of round. I never could get it pushed back into it's proper shape so finally ditched it.

I think I get what you are saying, quite easy to burn the outside of food and have it not cooked in the middle.

Didn't get chance to fire it up today, it was too damp and miserable, hopefully next week some time.
