I like it too but crops in UK even under glass will be disappointing. They need hot weather, think Greece in the summer. It is very widely grown in India.

Mum sends me enough ripe chilli ground with salt for making chutneys , a kilo or two of dried chillis and home made chilli powders of various spices. so never let my chillis ripe this much . pick them when they are big enough and freeze different green chillies :)

I have them at all stages of their growth but much prefer to eat them raw and straight from the plant. :dbgrtmb:

There are some dishes in which I use my own chopped dry chillies but normally it's fresh chillies on the side or chopped and put on top.

Thanks folks, for the replies  I had thought they might be a good addition to my veggie curry, but the thought of something...slimy, I think I’ll give them a miss :)

You could mix it in with the Aubergine, that's getting a bit of a roasting in another thread:biggrin:

Aubergine and okra pie, sounds really good.
You could add some Brie on top to add to the slime.:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

The only time I have it is occasionally as an Okra (Bhindi) bhaji with a restaurant. I agree it doesn't have a strong flavour and is somewhat sticky (not slimey!!). I have also grown it under glass and it does have a Hollyhock/Hibiscus like flower.

You are a heathen sir, a heathen! :heehee:
To be fair @Freddy Pete is getting quite posh nowadays. Have you heard that he now uses a knife and fork instead of his fingers :loll:

Anyway, that's enough mickey taking at Petes expense! Time to get back on subject.
I do use okra in curries, taggines and in my sort of Carribean stylie cooking. I find that it has a mildly citrus flavour and it is certainly a good thickening agent.
As my friend Ahmed gives me okra I've never grown it but this year I'm going to give it a shot, mostly for the ornamental value. @MRishi - is the offer of seed still open?
