Dont want to alarm you Gail.....last year I came across a limax maximus tigeris x with a New zealand escapee. It was attacking lonelia cardinalis in the pool by stretching its 14" body across the water. Night time and I was alarmed big time. This new zealand invader has razor teeth, growls and spits venom and turns to challenge whomever challenges it. So it is a pretty nnasty thing
I removed it with a garden fork and it was semt to local Rosewarne experimental station locally. One worker was bitten and had to go onto antibiotics for a month:noidea:
We meed to be sensible in the garden and be prepared for unusual and threatening pests. Is thst why you gathered all those "weapoms" Gail. Add a pair of stout gloves too

I know limax maximus growls and spits venom - but those are not teeth you know, they are fangs. I thought this animal was native to Europe. How many legs did your one have Verdun?

Seaweed, raw seaweed, is excellent :)....slugs and snails dont like it or seem to tolerate it. However, not the most pleasant smelling in a garden away from the coast :noidea:

No unless we keep travelling to the nearest coast line and it would cost more in diesel than the plants worth in reality ...thanks for the link mate if my added addition doesn't work.

I'd be careful about using coffee grounds. Nothing wrong with it but as you have gravel it may stain it. :noidea:

Ash also deters slugs and snails.

Is that a sssssssslug Gail? :gaah:
You may find the damage was caused by that single guy.....problem solved....but go out again tonight and see if he had any partners in crime:)

I remember last year hosta leaves were being eaten but couldnt find the culprit....it was in a pot and I searched thoroughly. Finally, I caught him, a large snail. :yay: Thereafter hosta was fine. Knew he was there!!!

Verdun definitely yes mate it was one and if it's just that one or more they've done some damage to the other stems from the back :gaah:

We had hostas up on the back wall before hubby started using it as shed storage and ours got large but the leaves did have some munching

Yes i'll be out at 1am tonight just before I drop into bed :snorky:

Excuse me for nipping in here :snorky:
Pellets won't harm the plant but opinions are conflicted on using them :rolleyespink:
They can/ will harm natural predators
Natural predators, if looked after, will keep the unwanted ones at bay
Nematodes are recommended above pellets as a natural way of dealing with unwanted beasties
Pellets can/ will harm pets, birds etc
If you use pellets........ in some circles....... it's akin to lighting up a cigarette at a royal tea party :gaah::nonofinger::yikes:
:sofa: I use them sparingly :sofa:
