Well, I've ordered a pair of pretty basic reading glasses from Selectspecs.

Had to E mail my prescription because the way its been written doesn't fit in the boxed they provided.
But got an e mail straight back saying they had received it, so good up to now.

Reading that has just reminded me, a couple of years ago I bought a fairly expensive pair of varifocals.
Anyway, I thought they were rubbish for seeing through, everything looked curved.
So I was doing some strimming and was wearing them as eye protection, but I remember them falling off and thought I'll go back and pick them up in a minute.

I forgot, until I heard the clatter of the mower the following day as I went over them.

I don't wish to 'Down' the opticians etc. I respect their skills and their devotion to caring for our eyesight and general wellbeing. However I have this feeling, that sad to say an element of commercialism has crept in. May I relate my own experience.

Several years ago. I had an eye test, following an accident. I was still at school. In the metalwork shop, a classmate stupidly placed a piece of alluminium on the buffing wheel. It was snatched out of his hand, spun around and finally hit me in my left eye. Being exammined at my local opticians. I was informed that, I was going to go blind. I was just coming upto leaving school. I was terrified. Later the practice denied ever saying such.

In time. I registered with a family owned business. In Passey Place. Eltham. One of the members always said. Mike you would have made an excellant airial gunner. Your eyesight it tops. He. James also practiced at a local hospital's eye clinic.

So I stayed with this practice. Very seldom did my prescrition change. Then a young lady optician came on board. She contacted my GP suggesting I be seen at the hospital.
So a new avenue opened. I was worried about perhaps, losing my driving license. Stop worrying, I was told. Almost everyone has indications of catteracts and glaucoma. Put your mind at rest. The speed that these are moving in your case. You will be long gone.

I have had the annual eye test at my opticians. Always a new optomerist and always a new prescription. I just pocket it. Back at the hospital clinic. OK Mike, carry on, not much to worry about. When would you like to come back.

Recently. I have had some eye pain. I turn to a homeopathic remedy. Euphrasia. Eyebright. It works. So folks. YES. Safeguard your eyesight but be aware. Take care now.

My glasses have finally arrived they took a week to travel less than 50 miles, and three e mails from royal mail saying they were coming tomorrow.
Any way the frames are a little bit more flimsy than I was expecting but all in all I can see pretty well through them and they are very light.
Also got two pairs of magnetic sunglasses that fit over them.
                I wasn't expecting that .
                So pretty good out come.
