I once knew an old woman from my village who sadly passed away ... people called her Dolly .... she donated all her clothes to the red cross charity shop .... she was always smartly dressed and always smelt of expensive 'antique style' perfume

Greetings from a dark and dismal Kent, where the only happy beings are the slugs and snails that are currently treating themselves to a gourmet jubilee in my garden. Anyway, here is a relatively new Harkness shrub rose called 'Wellbeing', which I planted last year well into the season. It is now a nice bushy plant and the first buds have opened.

It would look even nicer if the snails would stop eating the outer petals. I love the peachy colour of the large bowl shaped blooms, which are quartered when fully open. I like blue and purple flowers and this colour associates very well with them. This is quite a 'modern' looking rose, I think, and would even look good in JWK's 'tropical' bed. The smell is wonderful. Strong and fruity. Harkness gives the scent 10/10.

an update on the rambling rose ... worked there today, and there are flowers forming ... mainly in the middle parts, so it will be interesting to see what roses they are .... the rambler rose must be nearly 5-6 meters tall now and is still growing

just hope it does not kill the tree? (I don't know the name of the tree, but it's evergreen, makes black berries and is tall

this is an older photo (not a clear photo, but it's the tree/shrub in front of the swing .... the rose has nearly reached the top of the tree now)

There are many rambling roses, including a fair number of absolute monsters. If you really don't like your neighbour, grow 'Seagull' over his fence. Pretty scented white flowers: looks a picture when in bloom. Fence will be matchwood within a couple of seasons.

My hearts afluttering Loli. She's a cracker and her leaves look in good condition too.
If I may ask a personal question, how old is she?

I just love Roses but, and I know this sounds strange, I'm not really keen on pink roses for some reason:dunno: , which is no reflection on your cracking rose, loli, it's a "man thing" I guess:heehee: In fact, Woo recommended that I buy "Compassion" for the Arbour, which I did, but it is the only just pink rose in my collection. Strange how we have different tastes.

This is my 3 year old 'Gertrude Jekyll', I agree the scent is incredible. It is covered in buds also so she can only get better.

I have put 2 Queen Elisabeth roses next to it this year as this one does so well. They are starting to bud now so hopefully these will do as well as the Gertrude Jekyll. My patio table and chairs are right next to the Gertrude and it lovely to sit next to it in the evening with the scent wafting around, although with the weather forecast I don't think there is going to be much sitting on the patio for a while.
