I had read that if you cut the top off after the flowers finished, they can reshoot.
Nobody seems to had told it, that it was being a bit precocious.:hapydancsmil:

They say if you cut just below the lowest flower , leaving a good bit of stem, so you have at least two stem Nodes ( those little lumpy bits on the stem) present then they may send out a secondary flower spike.

However, read that this secondary spike will always be a smaller version of the main spike, so for that reason never tried it, rather letting the plant put all its energy into producing it next full spike.

Nothing stopping you trying for a secondary spike if you like .... :)

Our first Phal to flower this year, we call it little Hot Lips , twin spiked.

Our Phals flower stems are always left on. If they go brown then we know that there is no chance of reflowering. If they remain green then they will send up new flower spikes from that stem. We have some phals that flower and flower and flower.

Interesting, the spikes that do respike/reflower from the original stem, do they give a good display or do they seem rather small or weak compared to the original ?

When you say some phals just keep on flowering, do you mean from the same stem or putting up new stems before the first one fades?

We did once have phal that kept on putting out new flowers on the end of the stem for about 4 months, wondered when it was going to stop !

@ricky101 Yes they do give a good display. Some are from the same stem while others send up new stems and flower from those. We have one pure white one, variety unknown as we bought it from a florist who just wanted the flower spikes for s wedding. This has been in flower now for over 4 years with maybe a few weeks rest. Amazing plants.
