Solved Ornamental grass ID

Hi Guys. My first post here. I know close to nothing about ornamental grasses - please help! I recently rescued some plants from a communal compost heap but dont know what they are.

If it is I find it very invasive

 

It does look very much like carex pendula which can be a really thuggish and invasive.

 

I agree, Ican see a flower and it is Carex pendula. A right thug unless you have lots of acres.

 

Yes. Comparing to photos on google it does definitely look like carex pendula. Are they not worth growing in a small garden?

 

C. pendula is a wild form of grass.
The main problem is when the seed blows about and you end up with them all over the garden and sometimes in the middle of perennials/shrubs which are nigh impossible to get out.
There are many cultivated alternatives that are far better.

 

Agree with Carex pendula, I grew it as decorative grass when I lived in Essex without problems, gave some to a friend in Devon and after I moved down some years later spent a couple of years helping them to remove it.
Round here it grows wild in some scrubby woodland.

 

Yes, I have some growing in my woodland, in a place nothing much else will grow, but it seeds around and is difficult to remove. I would not grow it in a small garden.

 

I wouldn't have it in any garden, especially a small one.
In wet areas, it's a real thug. Every verge round here is full of it, and the gardens that are next to any verges have it all over the place too.
Perhaps it behaves better in dry areas though. The photos of it hanging nicely over pond edges is very appealing!
