A very chilly afternoon at Tynwald Hill, St. John's today.

Tynwald is arguably the oldest existing government in the world. Below are pictures of the area where the historic and traditional ceremony is held yearly. The photograph of the board will explain it for you.



My apologies for the reflection, it was the best I could do.






The church is also at Tynwald Hill and the ceremony starts with a service there.




Again my apologies, for the darkness of these shots, the main lights were out.

A bitterly cold walk around the city of Peel today. This is the High Street.



A couple of side streets.





The scene outside Peels museum. These men pulling ropes are attached to a large longboat on the other side of the glass.



Peel Cathedral. Recently there has been work to the tower. The gardens are currently undergoing major work.

Cool, looks like Old Red Sandstone, didn't know you had that on the Island, thought you were all Granite

 

Thanks Jenny, yes that is a handsome door.

There's a lot of sandstone here @Zigs. The quoins on my last house were sandstone.

 

He hadn't let on they had it there. That part of the house is over a hundred years old, underneath the render it's stone.

Back in Douglas.

The power station, it's lit up inside at night with blue lights.




The original government building which is still in use is known affectionately as the 'wedding cake'.


Following round to the right and a modern extension is attached.




The Courts of Justice lay behind the Government buildings.

 

Garey Ny Cloie is a woodland park that contains many trees from around the world.
