That looks great, @OwdPotter . I'm getting inspiration from your plant combinations to complement the roses, too.

Those ramblers trained on see-through trellis would really work for me, if I can get hold of some PVC netting. What size holes does your PVC mesh have, please? It looks bigger than clematis mesh, which is what I can get over here in Ireland. But I suppose ordinary metal sheep mesh would work, though it's not as attractive as your version...

    Thanks @Liriodendron
My pergola netting grid is 100x50mm. It is called Apollo, Heavy duty pvc coated wire netting and comes in 10m x 1.2m rolls.
Got mine from screwfix at £36/roll.

That's helpful, @OwdPotter . It is indeed available here in Ireland from Screwfix! Thanks very much.

I've made a note of that as well, so thanks @OwdPotter.

I'd be interested to read your updates on GdF to see how it compares with mine. I planted it in the corner of our 'orchard' with the intention of training forward to the south, mainly along a stout rope swag and through some old cut down cherry trees. What I'd forgotten was our south westerly winds which of course keep trying to blow the canes backwards! Silly me.
It's now two years old so I have high hopes of it taking off next year.

It promises to be a good performance this year.

BTW, has anyone seen ‘M’ lately?

Do you mean the rose expert lady from Norfolk @OwdPotter? She was posting on an American site but I haven't looked recently. She said she was digging up a lot of her roses as she was getting older and it was hard to manage her garden as it was. I wish she had stayed here.

Your garden is full of promise.

      Hiya @Busy-Lizzie, @katecat58,
I do, didn’t know she was from Norfolk though.
She was almost entirely responsible for the evolution of my garden to what it is now, so it was nice to keep in touch via the other place and then through here.
Are your ears burning @Mrs Hillard ?
      (Just in case;)

      @lizzie27
This is my Ghislaine de Feligonde, now 4 years old. It is quite vigorous.
I prune back any wayward laterals and train it hard back to the structure in Feb/March. I like to keep it as tight to the structure as I can for ease of access.
All of the new growth away from and above the pergola is this year since then. As can be seen, it is now producing what I hope to form into a canopy but I will let it be until after flowering then work to get it under control again.

This is a GdF cutting that I took about 2 years ago, planted up in a relatively small container as an experiment.
I recharge the soil in the container with manure / garden compost each spring.
It is going to be an interesting exercise to see how far I can get this to grow along the railings.

Beautiful roses as usual @OwdPotter , thanks for posting.

I have only just caught up with your posts since last Sunday so missed your notes re your Gdf.
Golly, she looks big, how tall do you think she is now? I think mine's in her third year and is taller than me by probably a couple of feet. I'm keeping her pruned in the orchard side of the trellis so it doesn't obstruct the walkway through and encouraging her to grow southwards, up and along into 2 or 3 lopped cherry trees - that's the ground plan anyway. She's full of buds as I saw this afternoon but none in bloom yet, despite most of my other roses coming into bloom this week.

Judging by your photo, I'd better keep a close eye on her!

Agreed - your roses are lovely, @OwdPotter . Desdemona is gorgeous!

Most of my roses are still in bud, though Kew Gardens is covered in flowers. It's one of my favourites.
